You may be after a new seven seater SUV that has off-road ability and rugged design. Ssangyong boldly announce the arrival of their new flagship model, and I have been pleasantly satisfied with a roomy SUV with composed road manners and an excellent engine.
For 2015, Ssangyong have given the Rexton an exterior tweak which has left the new model more sophisticated and with even better build quality. The streamlined Rexton exterior looks good and rides high on 16-inch alloy rims. Built with the family in mind, the new Rexton easily caters for seven occupants who will enjoy a nice roomy seating position and leather upholstery. Inside the new Rexton, the nice leather interior trim and design is stylish and a treat to travel in. All the latest gadgetry is standard on the flagship Rexton, so expect luxury the moment you step inside. The Rexton is packed with features, like luxurious leather appointed upholstery, easy access front seats with position memory, power windows and mirrors, climate control air-conditioning, CD/MP3 with Bluetooth and music streaming, and cruise control. The family will enjoy the long haul being driven in the new Rexton. Comfortable seats and a bright cabin space add to the roomy feel. Modern safety features are packed onboard, with things like front and rear park sensors, 4-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), brake assist (BA), hill descent control (HDC) and active roll-over protection (ARP) being standard and leading the charge.
Driver satisfaction is guaranteed with Ssangyong’s grunty 2.0-litre turbo-diesel providing plenty of pulling power, with a maximum of 360 Nm available from low down in the 1500-2800 rpm rev range. Even at 1000 rpm, the engine packs 190 Nm. Ssangyong have had an affiliation with Mercedes Benz engineering for some time now, so the benefits of an E-tronic 5-speed automatic transmission provides smooth acceleration through the gears. The auto works effortlessly with the required engine loads to give the driver optimal performance and fuel efficiency. Ssangyong have given their stamp of approval for towing a non-braked trailer up to 750 kg. If the trailer is braked, then the Ssangyong Rexton will easily tow 2600 kg. This is a hefty towing capacity, making the new SUV a potential hit with tradies. The other feature that catches the eye is the Rexton’s capability off-road. Traction is excellent, and you can really hit the rough terrain in the ultra-rigid ladder frame chassis 4WD designed Rexton SUV. Ground clearance is good, and the minimal overhang front and rear means that you can tackle steep inclines and declines relatively easily. Hill Descent Control is a handy feature when negotiating slippery slopes. The new Ssangyong Rexton has a low and high ratio 4WD gearbox.
Be ready to enjoy class leading fuel economy. The 2015 Ssangyong Rexton can capably ride on an average fuel consumption of around 8 litres/100 km.
The new Rexton is gaining a reputable following, which has taken a little time with having to reveal its ability in a rather saturated market with tough competition. Ssangyong has an excellent product here, and as new 4WD SUV buyers try Ssangyong they will be left impressed with the quality drive. You need to check out the 2015 Rexton, as it is a very well equipped and solid off-roading machine for a fraction of the cost of some of the European equivalents and even other popular Asian offerings.
