S stands for sporty and that is exactly what you are going to get with the new Audi S8 released for 2014.  Based on the wildly successful A8, the Audi S8 is everything that a sports car should be. Opinion may vary on whether this should be called a sports sedan or a sports coupé, but one thing is for certain: the 2014 Audi S8 looks great and performs even better.

It’s hard to know where to start with.  Just about every detail of the Audi S8 clamours to be noticed – especially the brilliant (in both senses of the word) matrix Led technology available as an option for the headlights.  However, as the body is what most people are going to notice first, we’ll start there.  The Audi S8 is technically defined as a four-door sedan, but the sleek curve of the roofline at the back suggests that you might get away with calling this a four-door coupé (depends on your definition of a coupé, I suppose).  Other aspects certainly show that this is a car that means business – the deep air intakes, the 21-inch five triple-spoke wheels with the exclusive S design and the aerodynamic grooves sculpting the bonnet and sides are all tell-tale signs of what this car is designed to do: go fast and perform well on the road.

However, what other people will notice first is the sound of the engine inside the Audi S8. This is where the true beauty of the S8’s design will show itself.  Four litres of capacity and V8 configuration with Audi’s super-efficient and responsive TFSI technology with direct injection and twin turbochargers, adding up to pulsating power and terrific torque.  The power hits its peak at 382 kW when the needle hits the 5800 rpm mark.  The torque curves, however, look even better, with a massive 650 Nm available from 1700 rpm all the way to 5500 rpm. Combine this with 8-speed tiptronic transmission and Audi’s famous Quattro 4×4 drivetrain, alongside the adaptive air sports suspension and an excellent stability package incorporating ABS, electronic differential lock and anti-skid resistance, and you’ve got first-class on-road performance and driving fun… just what you would expect from a sporty Audi. Does a 0–100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds sound fast enough for you? It certainly does to me!

The fun doesn’t stop with the way the Audi S8 handles, even though this is certainly the most impressive feature of this sports car.  Take the interior of the vehicle. Even if you’re at a standstill, this is downright delicious. Sports seats with memory function trimmed in luscious leather. A blend of leather and wood trims.  Four-zone deluxe climate control. And as for the sound system, well! It’s a 14-speaker BOSE 12-channel surround sound system. You’ve also got full Bluetooth preparation, an in-built navigation system, digital TV and digital radio reception and Audi Connect, which turns your car into a mobile hotspot.  All this gets displayed on the MMI screen – an 8-inch touch-sensitive retractable panel.

If you are on the move, then there’s plenty of assistance in the form of driver aids if you need them. The Audi S8 is equipped with active lane change and side assistance, Audi’s Parking system plus that includes a 360° camera and parking assistance, adaptive cruise control with stop/start function, dynamic steering, drive mode selection and a head-up display.

If you could summarise the Audi S8 in just a few words, it would be this: magnificently sporty, beautiful and lavish!
