New for this year is the sportier and cool-looking Audi Q3 with its funky Sportback version, different bumper styling that includes diffusers at the rear, flared wheel arches, and a new huge interlocking grille. Based on the more upright standard Q3, the Sportback model will be the one to choose if you want more dynamic looks and a sportier drive.
Adaptive LED headlights with daytime running lights provide chiselled detail, tapering inwards to widen the stance. The new Q3 Sportback’s headlights feature a range of intelligent functions such as junction lighting, which uses navigation data to provide additional side illumination when approaching intersections. The rear lights feature dynamic indicators with an eye-catching sweeping motion.
Inside the Sportback version of the brand new Q3 cars there is not a huge difference from the standard Q3 cars, however racier seating and trims can be fetched as an option to set your new Audi Q3 Sportback apart. Classy features like Alcantara dash materials and soft touch panels with very modern HD digital displays ensure that the driving experience remains luxurious and fashionable. Lower down a few of the cheaper harder plastics help to keep the price down while being durable and long lasting. Be sure to run a soft cloth over the glass touchscreen to keep it looking stunning.
Audi’s digital displays, both for the touchscreen in the centre of the dash and the digital driver’s display are some of the best out there, and it’s nice to see that the smaller Audi models don’t make do without this sweet technology. Even the base models get plenty of modern features including: a large central infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite navigation, a full digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, scrolling indicators, cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking.
S-Line Audi Q3 Sportback models offer a bit more to enjoy, and so things like privacy glass, mood lighting, a glass roof, wireless charging, self-parking ability, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, aluminium trim, a 360 degree camera, a Bang and Olufsen audio package, an adaptive suspension and special leather seating come as standard.
Handy features in the new Audi Q3 Sportback include plenty of storage space in the front for packets of nuts and lollies for the kids, cupholders, large door bins, a decent-size glovebox and even a special compartment to hold your mobile phone. Two USB points and a 12V socket are available for front seat passengers.
Is the new 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback comfy? Yes it is. There is ample movement for the front seats – including the seat cushion extension for under thigh support. The front seats can be raised and lowered, while the steering column has rake and reach adjustment. Back seat passengers get good levels of leg room and head room is ok for average adults – though if you are taller than most the head room might be an issue in the lower, sportier roofline which the Sportback models get. This, however, is not a problem for standard Q3 cars. Rear seats also slide back-and-forwards giving some versatility in the luggage space behind the seats. Cup-holders, large door bins and isofix points for rear seat passengers complete the picture.
The square boot space delivers very good luggage capacity (530 litres) and it’s actually bigger than BMW’s direct rival, the X2. Storage bins and tie down points add practicality.
Engines in the new Audi Q3 Sportback range are a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre petrol. A refined and efficient turbodiesel is also offered. FWD and Quattro models can be had, and all-in-all these are pretty nice units to drive. The 2.0-litre petrol is quite quick and fun to drive. Six-speed manual gearboxes are available for lower powered models, while the punchier versions offer a seven-speed auto.
Out on the road the Q3 Sportback is a very nice ride, and with the adaptive dampers the ride is exceptionally nice and soft over rough roads. The car hangs on pretty well through the corners while the steering is nice and accurate on the straights. With the small SUV’s supportive seats and quiet ride the Q3 Sportback delivers a good benchmark for its class.
For a fun car that has great looks in a small, luxurious sporty SUV package you do need to consider the Q3 Sportback.
