After some 14 years in production, the newest edition of the Audi A7 still has that knack of turning heads. This is one of the nicest looking models of Audi cars, and the A7 is a stylish medium to large liftback with beautiful flowing lines, premium workmanship, and loads of road presence. Packed with the plenty of technology that geeks will adore, and a powerful range of engines, the A7 definitely aims to please. This is not your average car.
I’d class the Audi A7 in the luxury/executive class, so you have all the best of audio and infotainment features. Adaptive cruise control and parking assist come as standard. From the moment you enter the cabin, the standard of materials, fit, and finish is exceptional. Additional wood and microfibre trim alternatives make for an exquisite interior experience that ensures all its occupants are cocooned in plenty of opulence and comfort.
The latest versions of the stunning new Audi A7 have had a facial makeover, and with that comes a more cohesive and purposeful headlight–bumper–grille design, where the revised outcome is very pleasing on the eye. The best LED headlight technology, streamlined airflow, silver accents, and a bold honeycomb grille are just some of the improvements you’ll find on the new models. You’ll also notice that the rear-end of the Audi A7 has also had a tuck, and the taillights look more streamlined as a result.
Along with the car’s appealing improvements in the exterior detailing, the range of alloy designs have had a makeover, and you can now opt for a rim size that sits at 17–21 inches. The S Line models also offer a greater style differentiation over the standard models. For those who want full Sport mode, then the Audi A7 has the S7 in its range to satisfy the owner who loves to drive it in the fast lane. But it doesn’t just stop there either, because Audi also offer the twin-turbo V8 RS7 – the ultimate drivers car. Which brings us nicely to what engines Audi have provided for the new three-tier A7 range.
For us in Australia, the 2024 Audi A7 is offered in the one model: the A7 55 TFSI, which provides its new owner with a sweet 3.0-litre V6 that uses an intercooled turbo, DOHC, and VVT. The engine has four valves per cylinder, so there is plenty of precision in the level and delivery of fuel and air exposed to the ignition timing process. This special ULP motor runs on 95 octane fuel and delivers a smooth wave of energy that peaks at 250 kW of power. Matched with a maximum of 500 Nm of torque accessible anywhere between 1370 and 4500 rpm, this luxury liftback delivers copious amounts of driving pleasure for all occasions. The Audi A7 55 TFSI will sprint the 0–100 km/h dash in 5.3 seconds and run on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h. It also comes standard with impressive 4WD Quattro handling and various driving modes that will soften or harden the suspension’s damping. The gears are automatically changed via a slick 7-speed sports automatic dual clutch gearbox. Remarkably, the A7 55 TFSI can cruise at motorway speeds with a fuel consumption averaging around 6–7 litres/100 km.
Next on offer is the Audi S7 with its special high performance 2.9-litre twin turbo ULP engine. This is an impressively responsive motor boasting a maximum power output of 331 kW, served up alongside a full glass of 600 Nm of torque that’s accessible anywhere between 1900 and 5000 rpm. This equates, in layperson’s terms, to a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of well above 250 km/h (if the 250 km/h limiter is disabled).
If you can cope with the hefty price tag, then the 2024 Audi RS7 is the ultimate A7 for speed freaks. Under the hood of the RS7 resides a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 internal combustion engine that runs on 98 octane ULP. This glorious V8 packs a whopping punch, boasting a limited top speed of 280 km/h. The real fun for your daily drive starts with the RS7 being capable of getting the 0–100 km/h sprint done in 3.4 seconds. Of course, this car comes with Audi’s performance Quattro (4WD) underpinnings, making this a track weapon for any sport meet. This roadgoing version also packs a maximum power of 463 kW, along with a peak level of torque at 850 Nm, which is accessible anywhere between 2300 and 4500 rpm.
The 2024 Audi A7 is a premium five-seat hatchback/liftback with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Seating comfort is excellent, though the sloping roofline may catch out taller folk seated in the rear seats. The boot space is very decent, with 535 litres available with the rear seats in use, but extendable out to 1390 litres if the 60:40 split-folding backs seats are folded down.
The new Audi A7 is truly an everyday practical and luxurious liftback with premium levels of luxury, style and comfort.
