The four circles sit proudly on a generously sized grille on a compact SUV, a vehicle that has sedan-like lines but with a higher stance and just a hint of dynamic aggression but without being rugged or rough-and-ready. Headlights with almost a pavé diamond effect, which is repeated in the tail lights, almost seem to wink at you and invite you in to take a drive. This is the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI, a vehicle that is as likely to be as popular with the travelling sales rep going state to state in more comfort than by air as it is with the busy mother ferrying children to school on the way to work. And both of these drivers will be able to travel in comfort and style – guaranteed. And the new Audi Q5 3.2 FSI is coming to these shores soon.
First of all, let’s study a bit more of the exterior of the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI, as it’s the first thing anyone will see when this compact luxury SUV reaches Australia. We’ve already noted the superb detailing of the headlights, and this is continued with the aluminium trim highlighting key areas of the exterior without being excessive. The roof rails, which come as standard on the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI, are designed to reduce drag and blend harmoniously with the overall looks of the SUV, and they are also finished in aluminium. The roof is also home to a roof spoiler that give a sporty touch and adds to the on-road performance. A pair of foglights peek out from below the main Xenon-plus-LED headlights.
What makes the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI in the new Q5 range is what’s hiding under the bonnet. This is a very peppy petrol engine that delivers 199 kW of power at its peak, which it reaches at the 6500 rpm mark, and 330 Nm of torque in the 3000–5000 rev range. The driver can get what he/she wants from this powerplant with the seven-speed S-tronic transmission that feeds the power and torque to the (of course) Quattro full-time 4×4 drivetrain. The Audi Q5 3.2 FSI is capable of doing the 0–100 kmh in 6.9 seconds, making this one of the nippiest SUVs on the road, if not THE nippiest.
Can you take the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI off road? Yes, you can, if you can bear the thought of getting that beautiful bodywork dirty or seeing the 18” wheels covered in mud. But with Audi’s famous Quattro, the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI can go off road, and it is capable of mounting a slope of 31° maximum gradient (as long as the slope’s 25° at the bottom so the Q5 can get up it), clearing bumps up to 200 mm and wading through water 500 mm deep. The ESP has an off-road mode to maintain safety and stability (and fun) wherever you go, as well as incorporating ABS, ASR, EBD and EDL – and you don’t need a PHD to see that all those letters spell a vehicle that is well-mannered on and off the road.
And as the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI is a luxury SUV, it’s got plenty to play with on the inside when you’re sitting on the supremely comfortable Milano leather trimmed seats (incidentally, the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI features a rear bench seat, while the driver’s seat is electrically adjustable and includes lumbar support for those long haul trips – or for any trip). You’ve got an acoustic rear parking aid, a triple-zone climate control air conditioning system, cruise control, the informative Driver Information System, a light and rain sensor to help you see your way clearly in changing conditions, a leather-trimmed 3-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel with the paddle shifters for the S-tronic transmission attached, a six-disc CD changer rigged up to the 6-channel 10 speaker system with a maximum of 180W output and Bluetooth mobile phone preparation.
Naturally, the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI has the full complement of airbags – side, front and curtain.
All over Australia, discerning drivers are preparing to test drive the Audi Q5 3.2 FSI. Will you be one of them?
