Audi continues to put some more herbs under the bonnet of their vehicless and you’d probably want to call the brand new Audi SQ5 TDI more of a hot hatch than an SUV! A brand new V6 twin-turbo diesel sits under the bonnet, and with so much torque and power the Audi SQ5 TDI can really move. If you’re after an SUV with loads of style, technology and performance, then the SQ5 TDI is one you must consider.
You can expect all of the latest luxury equipment to grace the Audi SQ5 TDI. It’s all there, from lane change warning systems, to satellite navigation, electric heated seats to premium surround sound audio, zoned climate control to stunning leather trim, hands-free communication systems to LED daytime running lights… and the list goes on. Big 21-inch alloy wheels look hot, while adaptive headlights (with auto high-beam) and a five-star European NCAP crash testing result take care of any safety worries. A very handy luggage rail system and luggage net are great options for securing a big load, and the SQ5 TDI comes with a state-of-the-art alarm system – and I reckon you’ll need one, because this one’s gorgeous!
Inside the Audi SQ5 TDI, the interior experience is breath taking. Quality is second to none, and the comfort levels of all the seats are exceptional. Loads of people are going to enjoy travelling in this vehicle, so you are going to be a sure hit with all the school trips and sport team events. Space is pretty good for a medium-sized sports SUV, and the luggage space in the boot is good for carrying abundant equipment. Split folding seats do enhance the carrying ability of the SQ5 TDI, while there are handy pockets and storage compartments for all the bits and pieces you often end up taking on a trip away.
But if the truth be known, you’re going to buy the SQ5 TDI having experienced the special engine that drives this machine. It’s my bet this will feature in an engine of the year award before too long, such is the quality of the engine. Twin-turbo power should hint at the AWD’s magnificent muscle power. Torque of 650 Nm is at its maximum even at 1450 rpm. Then there’s the output of 230 kW at 3900 rpm, which is a sensational combination for supercar like performance. Road tests show that the 0-100 km/h dash is completed in around 5.1 seconds, while 200 km/h rolls around in just 22 seconds. Audi have limited the SQ5 TDI top speed to 250 km/h – much like BMW and Mercedes Benz seem to do with a number of their cars. Smooth power delivery is appreciated, and this is a result of Audi using their excellent eight-speed tiptronic transmission.
On the road, the composure of the SQ5 TDI is exemplary; whether you are flying down the straights or cruising around town, the ride is superb. A massive rubber footprint ensures that the AWD system has all the grip you’ll need for an enthusiastic drive. Weighing in at a little under two tonnes the SQ5 TDI is no feather weight, but this only adds to the beautiful ride quality. Huge brakes do a great job at hauling the sporty SUV in from high speeds, while there are a number of excellent electronic driving aids to control any skidding or loss of traction under brake or acceleration. Audi are bragging that this is the fastest Diesel SUV on the market. It only takes a short drive in the SQ5 TDI to believe this statement.
Smiles for miles, and with a very reasonable price tag – all things considered, the Audi SQ5 TDI has to sell like hot cakes.
