BYD because the exciting new BYD Seal Sedan is available here in Australia!  The 2024 BYD Seal is definitely an EV to get excited about, as it delivers on all the right fronts for a price tag that’s lower than that of its rivals.  BMW’s i4, Hyundai’s IONIQ, and Tesla’s Model 3 have a genuine nemesis.  There are three models to choose from: Seal Dynamic, Seal Premium, and Seal Performance. 

The BYD Seal essentially runs with two options for powering your drive.  It is available with either a single motor powering the rear wheels (Dynamic with 150 kW and Premium with 230 kW) or dual motors and all-wheel drive (Performance with 390 kW).

The BYD Seal Dynamic would be considered as the Base model, though the equipment levels are great and the drive offers the perfect blend of performance and comfort that you’d expect in an everyday driver.  The Dynamic Seal Sedan will scamper through to 100 km/h from a standstill in around 7.5 seconds.  The RWD platform offers a strong 150 kW which is said to be capable of running an impressive range of 460 km on a full charge.

Go for the BYD Premium version, and there is a more opulent feel to the way this model of Seal Sedan gets about.  The enhanced power output of 230 kW to the RWD set-up is exciting, with all the high-end features being on-board this model.

The name Performance should be a giveaway on what you should expect from this Seal Sedan.  The BYD Seal Performance is a well-equipped sedan with everything catered to excite.  It is quick, capable of flashing through 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds!  AWD road holding and 390 kW is always going to be a great combination.

Then there is the Seal’s appearance.  I reckon the car looks superb sitting on its 18-ich alloys.  There is plenty of interest in the BYD’s exterior detailing.  Its streamlined silhouette has an aura of speed and elegance.  A sculptured midriff, carefully placed black trim in the bumper, a pointed nose, purposeful and slightly intimidating headlights, chunky side skirts, a low down front aerofoil at the front all adds up to a very sleek and sexy new EV.  The C-shaped daytime running lights look cool, too. 

Head around to the rear of the car, and you are greeted with a smooth-looking backside that accommodates a diffuser-type indentation with the bumper’s design to make it look even more aggressive.  You also get a slim LED light bar, and there are the words Build Your Dreams spelled out across the boot lid.

Enter the cabin, and the 2024 BYD Seal is good-looking, handsome, and classy.  The exciting exterior is every bit matched on the inside, where you’ll find interesting patterns, textures, layers, and plenty of premium materials and trim.  It definitely has an executive feel about the Seal’s cabin, and it comes with a full-length panoramic glass roof as standard kit – very nice!  Behind the striking-looking steering wheel with a flat bottom a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display looks the part.  The multi-layered dashboard has a nice soft-touch material, while the full-width air vent adds an impacting visual appeal.  The body-hugging sports seats are excellent, and they’re available with heating and ventilation

You can use voice commands to control a lot of the car’s features, but the premium 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits gracefully in the centre of the dash.  The party piece screen can rotate from landscape to portrait electrically which is a really nice feature.  Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built into the system, so all your music needs are taken care of.  The 12-speaker sound system emits excellent sound with Digital quality.

A powered tailgate is standard on all BYD Seal Sedans, where you’ll find 400 litres of luggage space behind the rear seats.  Under the boot floor is some other storage booths as well.  A 53-litre frunk is situated at the front of the vehicle, which is a good place for storing all your charging cables. 

The 2024 BYD Seal Sedan has been tested by ANCAP, who have awarded the car the full 5 stars.  All models come with 11 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging capabilities.  This means you can top up from 30-80% in just 26 minutes – if you can find the right charging station.

There you have it.  A well-priced EV that excels on all fronts: the all-new 2024 BYD Seal Sedan at your service.  It’s got my Seal of approval!
