Citroen’s new C4 range has lost none of its spunkiness. Awards aplenty for the C3 and C4 exterior designs prove that Citroen were onto a good thing right from the introduction of the curvy, teardrop shape design. The latest Citroen C4 range for 2010 has presented a few extra curves and new tail light and headlight designs, while the front nose has undergone a minor facelift where the designers at Citroen have developed a more aggressive C4 nose that boasts a larger grille that slices into the front bumper arrangement and improves air flow into the engine bay. The tasteful Citroen C4 exterior has a blueprint copied by no other car manufacturer, and hence the C4 always looks striking on the road – particularly when parked next to the mundane alternatives.
A feature every prospective buyer needs to know about the new Citroen C4 is the high level of practical space inside any of the C4 models. The light and spacious feel of the Citroen C4 cabin is helped greatly by the expansive use of large glass panelling. Sitting inside a Citroën C4 is a fresh and revitalising experience. Seating is superbly comfortable, and legroom first-class. And, unlike a number of other car marques, you don’t have to run to the leather option for the seats to feel beautifully comfortable. The Try web cloth and 3D x-ray cloth upholstery do the trick just fine. Of course, I was impressed by the leather option. Exquisite soft Mistral black leather or (my favourite) sumptuous Lama light grey leather appeals in texture to the senses. The black leather looks incredibly smart, while the grey tones against black dash and surrounds looks very stately indeed.
When it comes to considering which items and features you need in the C4 of your choice. You need not concern yourself with air conditioning, audio systems with MP3 compatibility, electric windows, a multi function steering wheel, ABS, EBD, EBA, airbags, power assisted steering and central locking. All of these items are standard on every Citroen C4 model. Of course, there are premium options available if you like the look of a Citroen C4 and would like some of the extra goodies available. Bluetooth communications with USB connectivity, GPS navigation and parking assistance are some of the excellent options available. A 2010 Citroen C4 is a well equipped and luxurious car. One that looks beautiful on the outside and elegant on the inside.
And on the open road, every new Citroen C4 is impressively responsive and very well composed. Ride comfort is second to none. Starting the power stakes is a very punchy 1.6 litre petrol unit that delivers 88 kW of power at a free revving 6000 rpm. Slower moving traffic can be quickly left behind with a flick of the five-sped gearbox or a detection of increased power demands from the four-speed automatic option. Both easily locate the maximum torque figure of 160 Nm to provide crisp performance when needed. For true performance, the Citroen C4 1.6 litre Turbo petrol whisks you along in fine style. A top speed of 212 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 8.4 seconds for the five-speed manual (202 km/h, 9.7 seconds for the four-speed sequential Automatic-adaptive gearbox) ensures that when you need to make up for lost time, it can be done. Two exceptional diesel engines are offered for powering the Citroen C4 for 2010. A 1.6 litre HDI and 2.0 litre HDI turbo-diesel engine-plant are available, both of which boast an intercooler and computer controlled direct injection. Power from the 2.0 litre is particularly good, while the 1.6 litre can be hussled along with plenty of gusto when needed. Exceptional fuel economy figures are attached to both diesel alternatives, in fact they rate as some of the best around.
