2018 Ford Ranger Raptor

2018 Ford Ranger Raptor

The rugged Ford Ranger continues to power down our roads, and it’s a big winner here in Australia and across the Tasman where it’s actually outselling the Toyota Hilux now.  Loads of power, refinement and towing ability make it the perfect companion on the work site.  The best thing is that the Ranger scrubs up really nice for a night on the town where it has impressive looks, presence and street cred.  Now, think current Ford Ranger and picture a Ranger on steroids.  You’ll probably be pretty close to what will be the brand new Ford Ranger Raptor which will be available for purchase later in 2018.

Few other trucks, let alone those currently in production, will be able to boast legendary Fox Racing Shox as standard equipment.  The Ford Ranger Raptor’s race-bred suspension has been specifically crafted to tackle the toughest terrains and has been proven in Ford’s F-150 Raptor.  Quite the bushman’s breakfast!  Ford’s new Ranger Raptor also has some clever stuff to match its contortionistic chassis.  A special Terrain Management System (TMS) allows the vehicle to excel in a wide range of terrains, so at the push of a button (mounted on the steering wheel) the driver can switch between Normal, Sport, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Sand, Rock and Baja modes.  Baja mode is not for the faint hearted!  With a specially designed ladder frame chassis that has been strengthened with High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel, the Raptor is ready to rip up some rugged terrain.

Under the hood, and at the driver’s disposal, is the massive torque put out from the powerful BiTurbo diesel engine.  This is not your usual turbo-diesel motor, but one that comes from Ford’s next-generation 2.0-litre twin turbo-diesel, four-cylinder engine.  Rated similarly to the current 3.2-litre Ranger engine in power, we’ll be seeing at least 150 kW and 470 Nm for this turbo-diesel.  This puts it in the hunt for being the most powerful 2.0-litre diesel in its class.  Power and economy like never before puts the Raptor in the hunt for top “bush-bash” honours.  Linked to the first ever 10-speed transmission, the new Ford Ranger Raptor connects the engine to optimum gearing and torque levels for all off-roading purposes.  Out on the open road, the Ranger Raptor has huge power for cruising and towing.  You’re up nice and high, and so a commanding view of the road ahead is what you’ll be getting used to when driving the Raptor.  This high visual advantage translates well off the beaten track, too.

Rugged and impressive technology hasn’t stopped with the engine and chassis.  The new Ford Ranger Raptor isn’t just a tough guy; it’s also loaded with a host of standard features and driver assisting technologies.  Equipped with the SYNC 3 voice activation system, new satellite navigation modes, active and passive safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC),Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Load Adaptive Control (LAC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) with Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Roll Over Mitigation (ROM) you can really you’re your drive.  Safety is first rate, and like other Ranger models, this tough guy gets the full five stars.
