Over the last decade or so, the Ford Transit van has always been on of the better vans to drive on the road.  They deliver a nice ride that is well planted, and the cabin and seats are comfortable.  This new Ford Transit Custom is a FWD 2-door van with 3 seats in the cab. There is clever storage and bins all around the cabin to ensure you can keep the business phone, booklets, papers, and your lunch all nicely ordered.  Well, in reality you know what it’s like, the ideals aren’t always functional in a busy schedule, so things can get a bit chaotic.  However, the new Transit has plenty of spaces to keep the cabin relatively tidy and functional during the busy week.

2022 Ford Transit Custom

Power for the road in the 2022 Ford Transit Custom comes from the very eager 2.0-litre TURBO-Diesel 4-cylinder engine.  You have up to 136 kW of power (peaking at 3500 rpm) and up to 405 Nm of torque (from 1500 rpm).  This is all accessible via the excellent six-speed automatic gearbox. You can also get your new Custom powered by the same engine above with 125 kW of power (peaking at 3500 rpm) and 390 Nm of torque (from 1500 rpm) via a six-speed manual gearbox.  In manual guise, Ford claim that the Ford Transit Custom 340L (LWB) uses around 6.6 litres/100 km of Diesel in the combined city and highway cycle while putting out 174g of CO₂.  With its 72 litre fuel tank, that means you should be able to travel over 1000 km on a full tank.  It requires a service every 12 months or 30,000 km, whichever comes first.

What makes the Custom version of the new Transit different to the others is that it is a front-wheel drive 2-door with 3-seats.  If looks really mattered in a big boxy van, then the 2022 Ford Transit Custom is one of the better looking cans on the road.  The proportions are well designed and the styling, particularly around the nose and face of the van, are relatively attractive.  The Transit Custom van is regarded as a VAN 2.5-3.5t that has been built up in Turkey production assembly lines.  The price of a new Ford Transit Custom van here in Australia kicks off at around $46k before on-road costs, though Private Fleet work hard to get you the best deals.

SWB (short wheel base) Ford Transit Custom vans are also available, as are Sport versions of either the LWB or SWB models.  Sport versions get a few more bells and whistles like GPS and tyre pressure monitoring.
