The latest Ford F-150 light truck/ute is available in Australia.  Two models are available, and the space, comfort, and practicality of these long haul 4×4 vehicles are truly hard to beat.

Ford have opted to use their V6 petrol motor to power the two variants of the latest F-150 light truck in Australia.  This is a solid engine with reliable and strong performance.  The V6 DOHC VVT motor is 3500 cc (3.5 litres), which packs up to 298 kW of power, with a maximum of 678 Nm of torque at 3100 rpm (mid-range).  For the size of light truck (6184 mm long, 2030 mm wide, 1995 mm high, and 2471 kg mass), this engine does really well at hauling the F-150 along swiftly over any road surface, and even off-road.  Speaking of hauling, the new F-150 can tow up to 4500 kg as long as the trailer is braked – otherwise 750 kg unbraked. 

The 10-speed automatic gearbox shifts effortlessly between gears to ensure there is always the right amount of power and performance on tap.  The combination of power and running gear is superb.  This winning combination allows the 2024 Ford F-150 to have an average fuel economy of around 12.5 litres/100 km.  Ford says that the F-150 has service intervals of 15,000 km/12 months, and the new vehicles come with a 5 year/unlimited km warranty.

Ford’s F-150 maxi-ute has been converted to right hand drive by Ford Australia, and it comes in XLT and Lariat guises, with the choice of regular or long wheelbase versions available.  The dual-range 4×4 gearbox in the new F-150 gives the vehicle formidable off-road capability, so if you need one of these for the trades or for other business, let alone for the recreational fun that can be had with one of these, then you have an off-road/on-road weapon at your disposal.

Climb inside the cabin of the new Ford F-150, and the occupant space is sensational.  The interior is cavernous and comfortable, so if you need to long-haul between cities and across Australia, then the F-150 will eat the miles up while you sit back, relax, and enjoy the drive.

The 2024 Ford F-150 has all the new safety technology to keep you and the family safe in all situations.  These features include things like autonomous emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring.  Collision mitigation and avoidance technology is on both F-150 variants.  The even more tech-savvy Lariat, while costing more, adds extra functions including bird’s-eye view parking cameras, stop and go in slow-moving traffic, lane centring, evasive steering assist, and speed sign recognition.

Even the XLT is a well-equipped vehicle and gets a 7-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connections, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice recognition, cruise control, two-zone climate control, electric windows, split-folding rear seats, and lots more.  However, the Lariat model is a loaded machine, so things like the XLT sound system have been upgraded to 18-speakers, the seats have gone from a smart cloth trim in the XLT to full leather, ambient lighting with varying colours and fading functions parties up the interior, heated seats, and more.  GPS navigation and a digital drivers display are standard on both models of F-150.

So, if you need a light truck that rides the roads like a king, the 2024 Ford F-150 has to be on your list of potential buys.  In fact, this one’s a standout drive in more ways than one.
