The sleek new Ford Mondeo Hatch is effortless to drive, comfortable and safe. Design features use a long wheelbase, low roofline and high waistline to capture the new Mondeo’s dynamic intentions. Elegant touches of chrome detailing, smart alloys combined with the low-slung stance on the road are not too dissimilar to the Jaguar XJ lines – and that’s a compliment either way. For a car worthy of a higher price tag, the 2016 Ford Mondeo Hatch is a leading design.
Design is not the only area that the Ford Mondeo has trumped. Interior space and comfort, new technologies and superior engines have propelled the Ford Mondeo Hatch into award winning status. “Drive” journalists considered the latest Ford Mondeo to be the best family car for 2015.
Advancing the use of Voice Control, the new Ford Mondeo Hatch has one of the best Voice Control systems available. You can even alter the car’s air-conditioning system via voice control. The qualities of controlling systems in a car via your voice is led by the fact that the drive will be that much safer due to the driver’s eyes not having to leave the road ahead.
Talking safety brings me to the next feature the Ford Mondeo Hatch has; and that is the car’s driver monitor system. The car can detect when the driver shows signs of fatigue. When alarmed, this is a good excuse for finding the closest coffee shop and stopping for a break. A Lane Keeping feature keeps the Mondeo Hatch on course and in the right lane. There is a Pre-collision Assist system that uses radar to detect imminent collisions, and that includes any stray pedestrians. Auto braking occurs when these collisions seem imminent. An enhanced Park Assist feature makes it even easier to park your car in tight inner-city parking lots. Adaptive cruise control works to keep you and your family safe, and the inflatable rear seat belts also feature on the long list of safety features that are on-board the five-star safe 2016 Ford Mondeo Hatch.
Under the hood lies duratorq technology in the form of a 2.0-litre TDCI turbo-diesel power plant, or there is the powerful 2.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine that uses turbocharging, direct fuel injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to get 149 kW in the Ambiente model or 177 kW in the Trend and Titanium models. Power from Ford’s diesel engine reaches up to 132 kW (3500 rpm) and 400 Nm (2000 – 2500 rpm). Effortless cruising is a feature of all three engines. Power is on a par with larger rated engines that will only be thirstier. Fuel economy for the diesel engine should be under 6 litres/100 km for cruisy driving styles. Fuel economy for the petrol engines will be around 8 to 9 litres/100 km.
Standard Ford Mondeo Hatch features in the Ambiente model include: cruise control, dual-zone climate control, power windows, follow-me-home-lighting, driver lumbar support, 60:40 rear split seats, a leather steering wheel, paddle shifters, an electronic park brake, cloth seats, SYNC 2, an 8-inch colour touch screen, Bluetooth and Voice Control, satellite navigation, Emergency Assistance, DAB+ Radio, USB, RCA, SD Input, driver and front passenger airbags, thorax and curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag, inflatable rear seat belts, ABS, EBD, TCS, EBA, DSC, Seat Beltminder, power child locks, Ford MyKey, and a rear view camera. So as you can see, this is a well-equipped car, right ready for the long weekend away with the family.
Trend Ford Mondeo models add an auto dimming rear view mirror, a 10-Way power seat for the driver and passenger, power lumbar support for the driver and front passenger, driver seat memory, heated front seats, auto headlamps, auto high beams, rain-sensing wipers, partial leather seats, sports seats driver assist, adaptive cruise control, Active City Stop, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Aid, Lane Departure Warning and a Driver Impairment Monitor.
In addition to the Trend, the Ford Mondeo Titanium gets premium leather seats, heated rear seats, ambient lighting (multi-colour), scuff plates, power reach/rake steering column, aluminium pedal covers, Driver Assist, a Blind Spot Information System and an enhanced Active Park Assist system. The Titanium models also boast side skirts and 18-inch premium alloys that look really awesome.
Ford has a winner here, and the Ford Mondeo Hatch is superbly nice to drive and the car is a leader in its class, for sure.
