Ford has ensured that they have EVs in their model line-up and, arguably, the most exciting new EV is the Mustang Mach-E SUV. Three models of the Mach-E are offered, and the base version, called the Select, can be bought new for around $80k. The top of the range GT versions are asking around $115k, while the midway Premium model can be had for around $95k.
So what’s to like about the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach E? What Ford offers in the Mach-E is a very sophisticated package with all the satellite connection, communication, and infotainment you’ll want via touchscreens or voice control commands. All of the new Mach-E models are very well-equipped vehicles, with active cruise control, 10 airbags, park assist, wireless smartphone connection and charging, zoned climate control, electric seats, a powered tailgate, USB ports front and rear, 360-degree cameras, crash avoidance technologies, and more. Even the Select version boasts a panoramic roof, 18-inch alloys, artificial leather seats, wireless smartphone charging, and a long list of safety features which are included in the price.
The Select and Premium models are RWD (rear wheel drive) and offer 198 kW and 216 kW, respectively. These versions are not slow. The GT version of the new Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV is AWD and so it handles the full 358 kW through its AWD system with ease. The GT is the most powerful member of the Mustang Mach-E line-up, with up to 860 Nm of torque available. It’s also the fastest accelerating Ford Mustang on sale, performing the 0-100 km/h dash in around 3.7 seconds.
ANCAP has crash-tested the new Mach-E and has given it the full five stars. The Mustang Mach-E weighs in at between 2.1 and 2.4 tonnes and is thus no featherweight; however, you should be able to get well over 400 km on a full charge for the Select and GT models, and well over 500 km for the Premium. Charge times vary according to your source of power and your time availability; however, short bursts for 10 min on a 115-kW feed can give you over 90 km of range. Mustang Mach-E RWD and AWD models equipped with the 91 kWh extended-range battery are now able to tow up to 1500 kg.
Being a 5-seat SUV, the new Mustang Mach-E rides high to give its driver good visibility of what’s out in front of the vehicle. The car handles nice and solidly on the road and at open road speed limits. About town, the electric steering is well suited for tighter, slower turns. Ride quality is pretty good over any road surface. Boot space is decent for an EV SUV, with the AWD GT even offering 840 litres with the rear seats in place or 1690 with the rear seats folded. There is also 133 litres in the frunk. Mustang Mach E vehicles are comfortable to ride in, offering decent room for occupants in any of its seats.
So, if you are on the lookout for an EV, then how about the SUV EV Mustang? It’s spacious, has a nicely made interior, has classy infotainment systems, and delivers a good range on a charge as well as good levels of performance.
