My goodness, the new Ford Mondeo TDCi looks a million bucks! If you’re seen driving around in one of these, be sure you’ll attract attention. The new Ford Mondeo has nice smooth lines and exquisite detailing. Not many people are offering many negative remarks about the looks.
Space is plenty inside the Ford Mondeo TDCi Diesel cabin, and whether you are driving the sedan, hatch or wagon, the cabin space is essentially the same. With excellent legroom and room for a good-sized adult’s backside, the seating is nice and comfortable. Larger than the previous Mondeo, the new Mondeo still has a cavernous cabin and luggage space. This will be the model that Ford Falcon lovers will now have, seeing the Falcon is dropped from the line-up next year. It will be a good idea to check this out and experience the roominess for yourself, particularly if you want to update to a new Mondeo from the current Falcon. The seating design provides good support and cushioning, particularly for the higher-end leather models. And speaking of models, there are the three levels: Ambiente, Trend and Titanium.
Very much a technology advancer, the new TDCi Mondeo offers a Park Assist system that can help park you up in either a perpendicular or parallel formation. Also, inflatable rear seatbelts, which have only ever been available in the S-Class cars from Mercedes Benz, are standard in the new Mondeo range.
As seems to be the way with most of the modern diesels, the Ford Mondeo TDCi Diesel also links the power (110 kW and 350 Nm) from its 2.0-litre turbo-diesel to the front wheels via an automatic gearbox. The six-speed auto boasts a dual clutch. The six-speed PowerShift transmission is extremely smooth and has been engineered to last 10 years or 240000 km. On the road, the new Ford Mondeo TDCi has a nice secure feel on the road, and goes about its business quietly and efficiently. Ride quality is excellent. Punchy performance and a quiet diesel engine note is very satisfying. It’s also nice to know that the TDCi treats you well at the pump, returning well below 5.0 litres/100 km for your efforts.
One of the features on all of the Mondeo TDCi Diesel variants is satellite navigation, so you can go get yourself lost somewhere and then the sat-nav can guide you back home safely. A familiar voice control features works very well for things like digital radio and handsfree calling. There are cup-holders and storage spaces throughout the already spacious cabin, while air-conditioning is also a standard feature.
Opt for the Trend, and the front seats are heated, and there is a very cool adaptive cruise control with radar guidance. Larger 17-inch alloys, low-speed autonomous braking, electric seats, partial-leather seats, auto headlights and rain-sensing wipers are just some of the other bits you’ll get in a TDCi Mondeo Trend.
The Titanium Mondeo Diesel has an adaptive suspension, a nice rear view camera, adds 18-inch alloys, a panoramic glass roof, and even boasts an electric steering column and tailgate. Safety features on-board the Titanium provide blind-spot detection, pedestrian detection with auto-stop, enhanced Park Assist, and a lane departure warning system.
When considering between whether to buy a Mondeo TDCi Diesel sedan, hatch or wagon, one of the key deciding features will be the boot space. The hatch boasts a very useful 560 litres with the rear seats in place. Opt for the wagon, and boot space is a huge 730 litres initially, which grows to a cavernous 1605 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Ford claim the Mondeo TDCi is capable of towing an 1800 kg braked trailer.
Pricing will also be another deciding feature, and the cost of a new Ford Mondeo Ambiente Hatch is around the $36,790 range. You should find you can get into a brand new Ford Titanium wagon for under $50k.
