2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV

2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV side view, orange

Do SUVs really come as suave as this?  They sure do!  The new 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV is a true statement in style.  This is South Korean’s take on what an Audi Q7 or BMW X6 should really look like.  The size of Genesis’s new AWD Coupe SUV is big on all accounts, but the neat design has it looking agile, even appearing lighter than it really is.  Weighing in at a smidgeon over 2 tonnes, the GV80 Coupe SUV is a delight to drive, especially if you like plenty of power married with ever so smooth luxury and refinement.

The good news is that you don’t need to pay as much cash for this special South Korean luxury SUV than you would have to for its main German rivals.  The GV80 Coupe SUV undercuts these by a long chalk and leaves you feeling smug as you drive away from Genesis’s showroom in this exciting sports/luxury Coupe SUV (especially if you score a good deal with the help of Private Fleet).  Genesis’ vehicles have been at the forefront of automotive design for over a decade now, and the luxe brand has a good handle on all aspects of what makes a great luxury vehicle.  The 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV is absolutely stacked to the hilt with scrummy features, and it definitely packs a punch with its delivery of all of the comprehensive onboard technology.  Just to give you an idea of just how cool this car is, the GV80’s armrest is now heated, and inside the armrest is a space that has a special UV steriliser so that you can get your phone or keys cleaned while driving!  Could it be that Genesis is targeting doctors as the likely drivers? These features would be perfect for someone who needs warm hands and needs high levels of hygiene.

All new Genesis GV80 models boast a single and seamless 27-inch OLED screen that incorporates both instrumentation and infotainment features.  This infotainment screen is very well designed and prepped for optimising your requirements right across its massive display.  Yes, the new Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the in-built satellite navigation works a treat for guiding you through the best route to your destination.  The digital radio has great sound coming through the GV80’s premium audio system.  I lost count of how many speakers are strategically positioned throughout the cabin for that all important superior sound experience.  Hey, well, it’s all about the bass, Meghan Trainor says!

Seating space and comfort are absolutely fantastic.  Whether you are sitting in the rear seats or in the front, all seats offer superb comfort and are upholstered in the finest materials.  Reclining, heating, and ventilation functions are standard for all seats, and leg room is excellent even for the tallest of occupants.  Riding inside a new Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV is a special experience, and everyone will love the ultra-plush interior and the quilted leather look.

Probably, you’ll choose the GV80 Coupe SUV over the standard GV80 SUV because you are loving the super-swoopy Coupe roofline.  Even with this special style, the Coupe SUV’s boot can accommodate 644 litres of luggage behind the rear seats.  Actually, the trade-off is not that bad at all because the standard GV80 SUV shape offers 735 litres.  Granted, that is a little more (91 litres), but, really, in the real world that will be negligible once you are fully loaded up for the weekend away with the family.  The rear seats can even be split-folded for accommodating more stuff, should the need arise.

Also, on the practicality front, the new Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV is good for towing a 2722 kg braked trailer.  The Genesis GV80 has been crash-tested by ANCAP, where it scored the full five stars.  The Genesis GV80 scored particularly well in the adult occupant and child occupant protection tests, netting a 91% and 88% result, respectively.  These scores are very good, placing it in the top tier of current safe luxury SUVs you can drive – even rubbing shoulders with other top performers in its class that include the Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7, Lexus RX, and Toyota LandCruiser.

All of the GV80’s active safety features like lane keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, and even speed limit recognition work for you to keep you travelling safely in the right direction.  There are ten airbags placed throughout the cabin, including a full array of side curtain airbags (rear seat space included).  In terms of active safety features, the 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV boasts features like a 360° surround-view monitoring system, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert, automatic high beam technology, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, and even front and rear parking sensors.

What’s under the hood?  A 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 delivers the goods, so performance comes in spades!  As much as 279 kW of power is available, and a lusty 530 Nm of torque can be accessed between 1300 and 4500 rpm.  Give your right foot the full prod down on the accelerator, and this SUV can really move.  A 0–100 km/h sprint can take as little as 5.5 seconds to complete.  The 8-speed automatic gearbox is silky smooth, and it knows its job very well, making sure you’re exactly in the right gear for the demands you require of it at any given time.  AWD grip ensures the Gensis GV80 Coupe SUV remains in control across all road surfaces and in all weathers.  Expect the GV80 Coupe SUV to return an average fuel consumption of around 11 litres/100 km.  Off-road capability is there, should you need to cross a field or explore a track.  I wouldn’t say that it is a serious off-roader by any means, but it does offer picnic excursions and skinny-dipping potential.

The power delivery is smooth, linear, and predictable, thus making the GV80 Coupe easy and unintimidating for all driver types.  The steering is also light, making manoeuvring this large SUV around town and into tight spaces a breeze.  Various driving modes are selectable, and with Sport driving mode, the GV80 dials things up a notch to sharpen the throttle’s response, firm up the ride, and add more weight to the steering.  Normal mode is perfectly fine on all accounts, as most people won’t be driving like a loony toon.  Here in lies the joys of the GV80, as its adaptive suspension is set up in a way where the GV80 Coupe SUV just glides over road bumps and any rough surfaces without any bother to its occupants.  This is a very accomplished AWD luxury SUV package.

So, do I like it, do I recommend it, and would I buy one?  You bet I would!  If you can live with a higher fuel bill (you probably can if you can afford a luxury SUV), then I think the 2024 Genesis GV80 Coupe SUV is a winner.
