The 2023 GWM Haval H6 GT is quite a sporty-looking SUV that is a great size for the family. It is a bit bigger than its sibling (the GWM Haval Jolion SUV) and delivers a higher premium feel; so, if the Jolion is on the smaller side for your tastes and preference, then the H6 model is the next in line and definitely worth a look. Haval is an automotive marque owned by the Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors (GWM), who specialises in crossovers and SUVs.
From the front quarter angle, I’m picking up a little bit of RAV4 in its design. That’s a good thing, as the chunky nose is kept sleek with a slim pair of LED headlights and a very deep air dam with massive air intakes. The exterior trim is attractive and, being the GT model, the H6 GT SUV delivers a lot of pizazz on entry to any function. Down the side of the vehicle is a high waistline, ensuring that the side profile of the new Haval H6 GT is kept strong and chunky. The SUV’s black alloy wheels and yellow brake callipers do look cool. Then, as the boot glass angle slopes shortly but steeply over the luggage area, the sporty SUV tucks in nicely at the back end. Over the lip and on top of the boot lid is a cute little spoiler that sits neatly over the slimline taillights. This matches the sleek spoiler on the roof – two for the price of one! The boot lid drops very low down, even into what some may consider the natural line of the bumper. This shape gives a nice visual impact that differentiates itself well from other SUVs on the market, while also serving to keep the need for lifting luggage high over the bumper to a minimum. Twin exhaust outlets finish off the new GWM Haval H6 GT’s racy SUV looks.
Inside the new H6 GT SUV, things feel comfortable and spacious when seated in any of the five seats. This ticks the boxes for any prospective Haval H6 family buyers. The ride is comfortable and secure, capable of easily dealing with any major road undulations with plenty of composure. Being the GT model, this GWM Haval H6 also has a harder edge to it. With various driving modes, the GT is capable of swift acceleration and some tight and athletic handling to match, particularly in Sport mode, where even the exhaust flaps open further for more of an exciting growl as the throttle is opened out. Paddle shifters on the steering wheel make sure that, for the driving enthusiast, the new Haval H6 GT is an engaging SUV to drive.
The engine is rated for a maximum of 155 kW of power, and then there is a lusty 325 Nm of torque available from as low as 1500 rpm for strong pulling power. When the 2.0-litre Turbo is matched with the 2WD Automatic variant, then GWM state that the Haval H6 GT should be good for a combined average fuel consumption figure of 7.4 litres/100 km. Fuel economy for the 4WD Auto variant has a combined figure of 8.3 litres/100 km.
Inside the H6 GT’s cabin, the medium-to-large sized GWM SUV offers a special cabin experience. There is a 12.3-inch touchscreen centre-dash that boasts features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This SUV comes very well-equipped from the outset, with things like blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, a large panoramic glass roof overhead, wireless phone charging, park assist, a heads-up display, zoned climate control, comprehensive crash avoidance technology, five-star safety, electric seats, an electric boot lid, sports leather seats with a GT embossed logo on the suede section, and a premium sound system all part of the package. Driver’s will be impressed with the large digital driver’s display that has various lighting pitches, modes, and information displays.
Practicality in a new 2023 GWM Haval H6 is aimed to be family and road-trip friendly. There is loads of space for storing stuff away between the front seats, behind the front seats, in the glovebox, in the door bins, and around the luggage bay. Folk in the rear seats will be impressed with the level of head room. Here, two USB points are a handy addition for any electronic accessories you might want to charge or use on the run. Knee room is good too, while the back seats are comfortable for any lengthy journeys you may care to take. Boot space is 392 litres under the shelf and behind an upright set of rear seats. The rear seats can, of course, be spit-folded or folded entirely flat as required for more space. A new Haval H6 GT comes with ability to tow up to 2000 kg.
This is a premium SUV that offers top comfort, technology, style, and performance. Coming with a 7-year/unlimited km warranty, the GWM Haval H6 GT is set to give class-leading Mazda and Toyota equivalents a bit of market heat. European models like the BMW X4 look a bit overpriced in comparison with these offerings coming from GWM’s Haval.
