Modern SUVs are ever popular, so with the arrival of the new 2018 Holden Equinox Diesel SUV there is no better reason for you to get yourself down to Holden dealers and see why this is such a nice little head-turner. Designed with functionality in mind, the new Equinox has much to offer the buyer looking for something fit for family, work and recreation. Whether it’s space for your teenagers or comfort for the long haul the new Diesel Equinox is an excellent buy.
Holden has a collection of stylish technological systems that are great for entertaining, informing and keeping occupants safe inside the new Equinox. The technology Holden has packed into the Equinox SUV involves some handy little features like the wireless phone charging function, Apple CarPlay and a premium Bose audio system. New Smartphone connection technology also enables the 2018 Equinox to, not only charge your phone, but also seamlessly sync with your smartphone to the car’s display screen so you can access your phonebook, navigate with your maps and play your favourite playlists. With the touch screen Holden has fitted nice graphics and an easy-to-use flowing logic for driving the various apps available. The 8-inch colour touch-screen looks great centred in the dash.
Driving the 2018 Holden Equinox is a pleasant affair. This SUV rides really well and sits nice and stable at highway speeds. The cabin is quiet and the diesel motor is well muted for relaxed motorway driving. Nip in-and-out of city traffic and the Equinox has light steering and good visibility for easy manoeuvring. Forward Collision Alert lets you know when you’re closing in too fast on the car in front – an excellent safety feature – and will automatically brake if it detects a collision. Lane Keep Assist warns you to pay attention and works to keep you safely in your lane. Blind Spot Alert is a nice feature to have – be it for comfort more than anything else -but, again, having the technology that gives you basically a set of eyes-in-the-back-of-your-head, well I’m not going to complain! Any of the new Holden Equinox Diesel models come with the full array of front, side and curtain airbags. Some of the models even boast automatic High-Beam Assist and even Rear Cross Traffic Alert – which is great for when you reverse out of those tight shopping centre carparks when your vision is restricted.
Models with the petrol motor are the Equinox LS and LS+, so you have to buy into an Equinox LT, LTZ or LTZ-V to enjoy the beauty little 1.6-litre turbo-diesel power plant that packs plenty of power, torque and economy into the Equinox Diesel drive. You can get around 6 litres/100 km efficiency on average, while the four-cylinder turbo-diesel delivers 100 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque and is mated exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission. For those who would use there Equinox Diesel for towing will note the 1500 kg braked trailer capacity.
The LT has everything you’ll love in the LS+ with a few extra comforts to make it just a little more special. I love the extra LT luxury of heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, four USB charge points, the bigger 8-inch colour touch-screen to cater for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation and a compass. Jump into a Holden Equinox LT, LTZ or LTZ-V Diesel and there is more chrome detailing around the car, and shiny 18 or 19-inch alloys available along with sporty twin exhaust pipes to make a better fashion declaration.
A 2018 Holden Equinox Diesel LTZ packs the roomy SUV with loads of extra luxury features the LT model doesn’t have – like wireless phone charging, the latest Bose premium audio system, Advanced Park Assist, a powered tailgate, Jet Black leather-appointed trim, front and rear heated seats (with one-touch fold flat back seats), LED headlamps, tail-lights, interior ambient lighting, chrome roof rails and 19-inch alloy wheels. You can also have the LTZ Equinox in FWD or AWD – AWD being my pick if you get this far up the ladder!
Top of the range spot belongs to the Holden Equinox LTZ-V model with its AWD, dual-panel panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, power front passenger seat with memory and heated steering wheel – nice touch!
The 2018 Holden Equinox Diesel models provide their owners with a new SUV that doesn’t just look good; the 2018 Holden Equinox Diesel is very modern, safe and satisfying to drive. Having the option of 2WD and AWD models available means t you will get the SUV you really want. In truth, the new Equinox is the perfect medium-size SUV to get the tasks of life done and then some.
