Purring along nicely, the latest Honda cars are a great buy. Offering great comfort, decent economy, safety, and practicality, they are popular among a loyal fan base for good reason. The 2024 Honda Civic Hatch is a good-looking car that is loaded with excellent features for the modern ride. At first glance, the prices for all three models look to be on the higher side, but when you consider how many features are on board for the price, it starts to look a whole lot more reasonable.
Sitting down in the comfortable driver’s seat of the VTi LX Hatch (if you can call it the base model), one notices a sweet-looking partial digital instrument display for the driver, then across to your left, sitting in the centre of the dash, is a sharp-looking touchscreen with all the features like wireless smartphone connection, GPS (satellite navigation), and Bluetoothing (if that word’s not in the dictionary, it should be). The seats in the new VTi LX are partial leather and comfortable. There is a lot of room for taller adults in both the front and rear seats, and in the boot, you’ll find 449 litres of luggage space with the rear seats up. Obviously, these rear seats can be split-folded down to gain more luggage-carrying capacity, as required.
Also part of the new Civic VTi LX Hatchback package are features like a set of classy 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with auto-levelling, an automatic high-beam function, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, a lovely-sounding 12-speaker Bose sound system, a wireless phone charger, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, beautiful leatherette upholstery with red-accented suede, an eight-way power driver’s seat, a four-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers with an integrated washer nozzle, power retractable exterior mirrors, auto up/down power windows (front), an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, paddle shifters, alloy sports pedals, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, and a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel. These are some very decent features that come as standard on this Civic Hatch version.
Honda Australia has launched the Civic Hatch with another two choices: the e:HEV LX hybrid and the sensationally quick Honda Civic Type R.
So, with the new VTi LX already being one of the most efficient cars in its class, the Civic e:HEV LX hybrid hatch gives you even more efficiency and real dollar-stretching ability when it comes to lessening the need for refilling the fuel tank. Honda’s hybrid technology is the best, so it’s little wonder that the brand new Honda Civic e:HEV LX hybrid hatch can return an average fuel consumption figure of around 4.2 litres/100 km. Over the VTi-LX model, the Honda Civic e:HEV LX Hatch adds some really nice extras like the panoramic sunroof, a full 10.2-inch digital driver’s display/instrument cluster, a heated steering wheel, powered lumbar support for the front seats, leather-appointed upholstery, individual drive modes, a five-year complimentary Honda Connect subscription, and electric windows (front and rear).
Get yourself into one of the quickest hatchbacks/cars on the road, and the 2024 Honda Civic Type R will put a smile on your face every time you get in and drive away. Capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5 seconds and boasting some of the best FWD handling around, this is a scintillating car to drive, making the price tag of around $70k look very friendly. Over the VTi-LX equipment levels, the Honda Civic Type R adds features like a set of snazzy 19-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip differential, adaptive dampers, Brembo four-piston front brake callipers, a 10.2-inch digital driver’s display/instrument cluster, a LogR data logger, an eight-speaker sound system, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, front sports seats, suede-styled upholstery, an alloy gear shift knob, red seatbelts, and powered windows front and rear. Being a six-speed manual, the Type R does away with the paddle shifters. Open the 2024 Honda Civic Type R’s boot, and you’ll find 410 litres of luggage room. Drop the rear seats, and you’ll find between 904 and 1212 litres is available to fill. So, the Type R is practical too!
There’s a number of decent rivals vying for the Top Hatch Awards, such as the VW Golf, BMW 1 Series, Mazda 3, Kia Cerato, MG MG5, Audi A3, Hyundai 130, and Toyota Corolla, which all provide stiff competition. All of these hatchbacks are great drives, so the Honda has its work cut out. But, in the Honda’s favour, the Civic Hatch is a well-balanced design, superbly efficient, a sweet drive with great engines, and a spacious and well-equipped cabin.
