Unmatched is an adjective one would use to describe the fantastic 2011 Honda Legend. From the car’s impeccable SH-AWD road manners and strong braking, to the Legend’s effortless 226 kW, 3.7 litre performance and luxury interior, to the five-star crash test results.. It’s all there.
Reclining inside the premium Honda Legend is a luxury moment one doesn’t forget in haste, and as the new Honda Legend is one of the best luxury driver’s cars to come from Japan in recent days I can warmly recommend this exclusive car to the buyer on the look out for a stand out luxury performance machine.
Sweeping sculptured lines on the bonnet and side. Glittering twin headlights and fog lights (front and rear). A sports car profile in a sedan size. High lustre paint. The Honda Legend is a stunningly beautiful car.
And the beauty of the Honda Legend isn’t merely skin-deep. The superb design of the exterior continues on the inside. The leather-upholstered seats just beg to be sat in, especially the eight way adjustable driver’s seat with memory, and the leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel with a memory feature for the tilt and telescopic adjustment is a joy to wrap your fingers around. Luxury inside the Honda Legend continues with a wealth of technological comforts and conveniences, including the “theatre dimming” for the interior lights, the sunlight-sensitive dual zone climate control that allows an incredible level of fine tuning, and the interface dial that provides audible trip and climate information (that’s right – the Honda Legend will talk to you if you want it to). And Honda’s technological brilliance shines through clearly with the cutting-edge Active Noise Cancellation system that cleverly and actively eliminates exterior noise intrusion by capturing frequencies and emitting others at the right phase to cancel the unwanted sound out – whether or not the sound system is being used. The sound system itself is another piece of engineering excellence, providing crystal-clear sound through the 10 Bose speakers that link in with the CD/MP3/Audio DVD 6-disc in-dash player.
There are, of course, many other features which set this car apart. Things like illuminated exterior door handles, LED tailights, heated mirrors and an electric sunroof all come as standard features. Breathtaking comfort and features are what this car is all about. This is a true flagship model.
But beauty isn’t everything. Does the Honda Legend have brawn as well as beauty? It certainly does, using Honda’s racing technology to develop the VTEC that enhances the 3.7 litre V6 SOHC engine. Press down the pedal using the drive-by-wire system and you can see the Honda Legend fly along and deliver an exquisite 226 kW of power which peaks at 6300 rpm. The engine is cleverly constructed from aluminium alloy, thus reducing weight. The five speed sequential shift automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control makes driving the Honda Legend a pleasure – whether you choose to manipulate them with the wheel mounted paddle shift or the centre console knob that has a “gun grip” for extra comfort and ease of handling. Very swift performance is a formality for the new Honda Legend and a lot of this is built around the long, flat torque curve which peaks a full 370Nm at 5000 rpm.
To keep the magnificence and power that is the Honda Legend on the road, Honda have developed with world’s first Super Handling All Wheel Drive (SHAWD) which continually distributes the torque appropriately to all the wheels, continually monitoring the forces and traction at work. This not only gives brilliant grip and stability – not to mention traction when needed, for example on a treacherous bit of snow – but also makes cornering in the Honda Legend an almost dreamlike experience as the torque is shifted to the outside turning wheel(s) to give that one extra acceleration, making cornering quick as well as surefooted.
Honda’s brilliance – which makes the Legend a car of beauty, brawn and brains – continues with the innovative safety features that are designed to protect people both in and out of the car. The adaptive xenon headlights swivel up to 20 degrees, according to input from the steering wheel, making night time driving almost as safe as day driving. The rain-sensitive wipers also give an extra wide “clean sweep,” making the visibility near perfect in rainy conditions. A rear-mounted video and in-dash monitor makes reversing out of driveways – and into tight parks – a breeze. You won’t need to be a contortionist to see behind you any more with this feature, but if you still want to glance back over your shoulder, then the rear headrests and sunshade (yes, the Honda Legend has these features) retract so you can see it all. And those inside the Honda Legend will (if a crash happens) benefit from the new ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) and the G-force control design that spreads the shock of impact over a wide area as well as absorbing the shock with crumple zones. Front, side and curtain airbags complete the safety features of the Honda Legend.
The Honda Legend is not a myth. It is magic.
