The Holden Special Vehicle team are still alive and kicking with the introduction of the second generation HSV GTSR range.  Whether it’s a ute or sedan, the HSV GTSR packs a punch that will swallow most cars up on the race track.  Race track proven, the latest HSV is very special.

Based on the F-Generation Commodore, the new GTSR uses a model name that was in action 20-odd years ago.  Available in three versions, the GTSR (sedan), GTSR Maloo (ute) and GTSR W1 (the ultimate HSV sedan) are the models you can choose from.  All have massive output and speed, while the level of technology inside one of these is very impressive.  If you do opt for the new HSV GTSR Maloo, you’ll more than likely own the quickest ute in Australia.

Everything about the new GTSR sedan cries high-performance.  Looking lower in profile, more muscly in demeanour and every bit exciting, the GTSR sedan is really good to look at.  Wider front fenders house a new 20-inch alloy design that is super light and strong.  Judging by the onlookers, the styling draws the attention as much as the aggressive engine notes.

Taking a look inside the HSV GTSR, and you’ll be impressed with the combination of sport and comfort.  You’re not going to be without the luxury one expects from the best luxury/sports sedans the world has to offer.  The HSV Podium front seats are 8-way electrically adjustable and are finished in Alcantara with diamond-quilted stitching and leather bolsters.  A MyLink infotainment system keeps you in touch with live-streaming premium audio, Pandora and Stitcher SmartRadio, and high-tech communications systems.  A USB input, iPod integration and Bluetooth allows for added functions, and there is Siri voice control/touch-screen access for playlists, artist, albums, songs and genres of music.  Musical harmony is cast through a premium 9-speaker BOSE sound system.

The latest satellite navigation reveals the best way forward via the excellent 8-inch high-resolution colour touch-screen display.  There is a comprehensive Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) that shows you an array of dynamic information about how the car is driving.  DVD Playback (when stationary) is also a pretty modern and cool feature.

Getting down to business, the massive 435 kW of power and 740 Nm of torque from the latest most powerful LSA Generation IV alloy V8 HSV engine is so good!  Gear changes are quick and smooth – the Tremec TR-6060 (MG9 spec.) 6-speed manual transmission or optional 6-speed automatic transmission with Active Select and paddle shifters being the go forward for the HSV GTRS versions.

Driving preference can be dialled in via the HSV Driver Preference feature where different driving modes can be selected via the dial on the console.  The GTSR has been programmed to recalibrate electronic systems like Magnetic Ride Control, ESC, Traction Control, Torque Vectoring and Launch Control (manual transmission) for even greater performance.  Electronic Stability Control (ESC) incorporates ABS, EBD, EBA and TCS, while the Driver Preference Dial (DPD) incorporates ESC, Traction Control, Launch Control (manual only), EPS, TV, MRC and bi-modal exhaust for optimum performance and exhilaration.

You may even want the performance notched up even more and that is where the HSV GTSR W1 sedan steps forward and takes a bow.   A mind-blowing 474 kW of power and 815 Nm of torque has been accessed from the LS9 Generation IV alloy V8, and is a statement of the 30 years of HSV engineering and design.  Only a Mercedes Benz AMG 63 sedan can provide more torque.  An Audi RS7 is also insanely quick!

You’re obviously in this for the performance.  Who owns an HSV that isn’t seriously into how quick and exciting the vehicle can be.
