On the lookout for a new small sedan? A stylish and powerful small sedan can be found in the Hyundai stable and it’s named the Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo. This is a very nice looking, modern car that boasts a powerful engine, a sports suspension and an aggressive new body kit.
I like the lines of the new Elantra Sedan. It’s a car that people seem to enjoy and they always comment on how new and stylish the car is. Then there is the sporty SR Turbo cabin that boasts sports leather seats, a leather wrapped steering wheel, a funky touch screen with ApplePlay and Bluetooth communications, and even paddle shifters.
As far as room goes, the front seat occupants have plenty of leg room, and the driver can easily find an ideal position for driving. Rear seat passengers have things a little tighter but it’s possible to seat three adults across the back row. Electric windows, the red-stitched leather upholstery and climate air conditioning makes travelling in the new Elantra Turbo pleasant. It’s nice to have a small sedan like the Elantra Turbo offering a spacious boot that can swallow a decent amount of luggage (458 litres). This will make a great small family car. When fully loaded, the Elantra Turbo has plenty of power to haul you and the family out-and-about on the open road. It’s also a very tidy small tourer.
Some of the safety features that make the new Elantra SR Turbo a five-star car include things like Blind Spot Assist, Lane Change Assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a rear camera that displays on the central dash when reverse is selected. A very well equipped car, the Turbo model gets all the active safety features as standard –ABS, TCS, EBD, ESC, BAS, HAC and VSM. Side and curtain airbags are standard.
Plant your right foot, and you can really accelerate fast, and the Elantra SR Turbo always seems stable and easy to steer on the road. Around town and out on the open road, the small Hyundai impresses with excellent fuel economy. You can expect around 8 litres/100 km on average. If you like using the power of the GDI Turbo engine then the fuel consumption increases – but not as much as you may think.
Maximum power is rated at 150 kW, which is found at 6000 rpm. The car’s torque is a healthy 265 Nm and this is available from as low as 1500 rpm and runs through to 4500 rpm. All this performance comes from a 1.6-litre petrol power plant. In the real world, the Hyundai has plenty of pulling power right throughout the engine revs making it a satisfying small sedan to drive. The six-speed manual gearbox is standard, while the seven-speed DCT is an option. Both transmissions feed engine power through to the front wheels. A 0-100 km/h sprint time of around seven seconds promises swift performance that will shake up other cars with more power and a higher price tag.
Hyundai’s handling package for the new Elantra Turbo SR is well sorted, with the car providing good steering feedback for the driver, stable handling and plenty of grip. Hyundai have set about creating a new model line of cars branded N Performance across their range of vehicles. The new Elantra SR Turbo is one of the first of these and it ticks all the right boxes.
It’s not in the same league as say a Renault Megane Hot Hatch, but that was never Hyundai’s intention. It is, however, a sporty drive and you certainly have plenty of performance in a car that looks great, handles well and rides nicely. Check it out!
