I’m ‘just cruisin’ may be a way of describing your agreeable drives in the gorgeous new Hyundai i40. It’s a classy wagon all round. The Hyundai i40 has head turning looks combined with sumptuous comfort and power – all ideal ingredients for a great family wagon. Your kids are going to love being seen in one of these. So what makes the Hyundai i40 such a good drive? Let’s take a closer look.
Gorgeous from all angles, the Hyundai i40 competes with a Mazda 6 Wagon, Audi A4 Avant or even a Mercedes Benz C-Class Estate for best looks in the medium sized wagon bracket. Stand and appreciate the i40’s lengthy body. The tapering roofline cleverly hides the cavernous boot space and roomy interior, within. Swollen wheel arches and a tucked waistline provide the Hyundai i40 wagon with sporty overtones, while the conical shaped headlights and front spoiler give a refined aggression to the Hyundai i40’s pretty face. Sixteen, seventeen and eighteen inch alloys are available in a nice array of clean, fresh designs. Aerodynamically sculpted, electric-folding outside mirrors not only look nice, they make it easier to park in tight places. The wing mirrors also boast integrated LED side indicators for safety and good looks. You’ll find the Hyundai i40 Tourer Premium model features a twin-panel full-length panoramic sunroof which beautifully fills the cabin with plenty of sunlight. Good looks help set the Hyundai i40 apart.
Slip inside, and Hyundai continues its aptitude for design flair by making the Hyundai i40 feel up-to-date and extremely comfortable. With a tactile interior that makes use of curves and premium materials for a top finish, the Hyundai i40 is smart and sophisticated. There is plenty of space to make Hyundai i40 journeys exceptionally peaceful and restful. Hyundai have the i40 ride well sorted; it copes well with road bumps and remains muted to road noise and wind. The dark interior background has a silky elegance, and with trimming that hosts lighter colours and chrome you’ve got yourself a nice mix. Blue on black lighting for the instrumentation looks stunning, while the leather upholstery is impeccably well stitched together. From the driver’s seat, everything is ergonomically sound. An electrochromatic interior mirror is included in the Hyundai i40 Elite and Premium models. The mirror automatically dims when it senses headlight glare from vehicles that are following behind. The Premium models incorporate an LCD screen for the reverse camera. Having a nice audio-system inside a car guarantees that your long journeys will disappear quickly enough, and the Hyundai i40 audio system allows hands-free mobile phone use and enables direct streaming of music from any Bluetooth compatible mobile phone or media device. The Hyundai i40 Tourer comes equipped with connectivity for your iPod and MP3 player devices. Both the Hyundai i40 Elite and Premium models feature an electronic driver’s seat that is adjustable in ten different directions. Opt for the Premium model, and you’ll enjoy an Integrated Memory System (IMS) that let you store you preferred seating position. While we are talking on the Hyundai i40 Premium, the Premium model features air ventilation technology which employs fans under the front seat cushions to pump a gentle stream of cooling air with three settings for personal comfort. Front seat warmers come with three step switches for adjusting heat intensity. Hyundai’s i40 is a smart option. All i40 wagons have a fully automatic climate control air conditioning system that allows the front passenger and driver to select and automatically maintain separate climate settings. Rain sensing wipers automatically activate the wipers when moisture is detected on the windscreen. Automatic cruise control is great for keeping yourself within the law and is activated by using steering wheel-mounted controls.
Safety is taken very seriously; no less than nine airbags are standard. Practicality doesn’t get much better in wagons like this one. You’ll find the 553-litre cargo area offers ample room for rubbish bags, shopping, luggage, sports equipment and all the gear that’s needed when heading away for a well deserved holiday. If you need more space, the 60:40 split folding rear seats allow for even more space for cargo. Hey, you can’t argue with a whopping 1719-litres with the rear seats folded down! Hyundai has equipped the i40 with a floor rail system and a cargo screen for the i40 Elite and Premium models.
What about the power? With features like a six-speed manual and six-speed automatic option, an Australian tuned ride and handling package and cornering brake control you’ve got great backup to what are two excellent engines. A 1.7 CRDi provides first-class diesel power. On the button at 100 kW, the engine has brisk acceleration. Torque is an impressive 320 Nm, so there are no problems with towing a camping trailer or caravan for the holiday! The petrol engine is a robust 2.0-litre unit that is made with clever technology and light components. Boasting 130 kW and 213 Nm, you will enjoy effortless performance. Both engines have better than average fuel economy; the diesel returning combined figures of 5.6 litres/100 km and the petrol around 7.5 litres/100 km.
