Built strong, the latest Hyundai ix35 comes in a number of stunning exterior colours. The sleek, muscly styling combines elegant sport and SUV lines. Under the bonnet lies swift and punchy power that, in petrol form, comes from the latest all aluminium four-cylinder petrol power plants. The bigger 2.4 litre petrol engine offers 9.2 l/100km fuel economy and 130 kW. Diesel has to be a sensible option, and with 135 kW, 7.5 l/100km economy and 392 Nm of torque, you’ve got to be nuts not to consider this ix35 flagship unit.
Hit the road running with 2wd or AWD ability. Certainly, the Highlander All-Wheel-Drive models have the capacity to take on outback terrain. The suspension system has been developed and tuned for Australian conditions.
Whats an iX35 like inside? Super stylish for starters. High quality materials, superior colour tones and tactile textures make the interior a very nice place to spend travel time. The Hyundai iX35 is equipped with a proximity smart key and push button start feature. A premium and very technologically advanced audio system creates some awesome sound. The iPod, CD, radio, MP3 and USB connectivity makes listening to music an awesome prospect. Six speakers and a large screen display, high mounted speakers and tweeters give you an idea of what you can expect. Steering wheel mounted audio controls add convenience and safety. Dual-zone air conditioning comes as a standard feature. Overhead, the Panorama glass roof makes quite a statement, too.
Excellent safety features and first class crash test results give the ix35’s new-generation design a big massive tick. This is a premium SUV for a highly competitive price. Make sure you kit your Hyundai ix35 out in the hot 5-spoke alloys. The fluent exterior is set off nicely with the big 18 inch wheels!
Hyundai has to be on to something good with their new Hyundai iX35. The mid-sized SUV has, definitely, been designed to capture the enthusiastic driver. With its chunky styling and well rounded corners, flared wheel arches and a sleek headlight arrangement bequeath the Hyundai iX35 with very snazzy looks that are both crisp and athletic. Certainly, the angular driving lights give the iX35 an overall lusty and aggressive posture.
Sidle up to the side of the vehicle, and, if you are lucky enough to be tall enough, you’ll see the panoramic glass roof which extends the whole length of the roofline, which makes the iX35 quite special inside with all the extra light streaming inside. Equipped with a roof rack and alloys, the car is very sharply priced and comes with a three-year, 100,000 km warranty. Let’s take a closer look:
Entering inside the Hyundai iX35, via the nice solid doors, is easy. You don’t need keys, as you can conveniently unlock the ix35 via Smart Key technology. You can lock and unlock Hyundai without taking the key from out of your pocket. Another nice feature, once you’re inside, is that you can start the engine via a push-button.
Evident, from the onset, are seats that are very comfortable. Sculptured to fit the human body nicely, the seats boast high-quality materials that are at the peak in premium leather – though the cloth material is superbly tactile and nice on the eye. Inside the cabin there is plenty of width, so room for backseat passengers is abundant. The higher roofline makes for excellent head and shoulder room, too. If you are lucky enough to be seated inside the front seats, you will enjoy reclining seats that are controlled electronically. These heated front seats move forward and backwards, up and down, at the touch of a button. As you would expect, occupant comfort is of a high standard. There are power windows, and also the panoramic glass roof is controlled with a one touch automatic function. Plenty of power is harnessed, by necessity, with the cruise control function, and the steering wheel has mounted audio controls. It’s easy to remain looking your best inside the iX35, as the car is also equipped with a sun visor that boasts a vanity mirror. The sun visor also comes with some handy extenders that work to shield your eyes from bright sunlight. Frosty mornings are no problems, as the Hyundai iX35 is equipped to handle icy conditions. The heated side-mirrors warm up very quickly, indeed much quicker than my aching cold fingers do. That’s for sure!
I love to know how the trip is progressing, and with the intelligent onboard computer you can keep well up to date with the progress of the car’s average speed, distance and fuel consumption.
I don’t smoke, but if you do, there is a portal ashtray and cigarette lighter on board. Car’s never quite smell as nice with all the nicotine in the cabin. The Highlander model comes with rear heated glass and auto dual-zone climate control. The Hyundai iX35 Active and Elite models come with manual air-conditioning.
I found the car to be very practical to use with all its plenty of storage solutions inside the vehicle. 60/40 split folding rear seats make carrying extensive loads a breeze. In all Hyundai iX35 models, there comes a retractable cargo area security blind, as standard.
Modern Active and Passive safety features keep the Hyundai iX35 at the head of the pack. All the models come with ABS braking ESP, downhill brake control, hill start assists control and warning lights for the seat belts, the doors, and engine. Passive safety features consist of airbags for the driver and front passenger, thorax airbags at the front, and also side curtain airbags which extend rearwards for the rear passengers. The Hyundai iX35 is equipped with side impact intrusion bars and impact absorbing bumpers, crush zones in the front and rear, and child safety rear door locks. All the seat belts in a Hyundai iX35 are three point and retractable. All seat belts have pretensions, load limiters and height adjustment. The proof is in the pudding – as they say, and definitely the crash tests prove that the car is well up to the task. The five-star safety result is a first-class rating.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the Hyundai iX35 comes with a number of engines and drive trains. The base model is two-wheel-drive, and it is a smooth and punchy performer. The 2.0 litre, twin overhead camshaft engine has four valves per cylinder and boasts 122 kW of power. Always flexible and ready to perform, the torque curve remains nice and flat, with a peak at 197 Nm becoming available at 4600 rpm. The 2.4 litre engine comes with an extra 8 kW of power, and another 30 Nm of torque.
The difference between the 2.0 litre and 2.4 litre petrol engines lies in the gearbox. You can choose between the five-speed manual gearbox and the six speed automatic with electronic sequential manual mode for the 2.0 litre model, the 2.4 litre model has a six-speed automatic gearbox.
As is the case for pretty much all the major car manufacturers, the Hyundai iX35 comes with a diesel alternative. I really rate this engine, as it is very smooth and extremely torquie. You can bet your bottom dollar that the diesel engine will be frugal – particularly in this mid-size SUV bracket.
I guess, for those of you who need a roomy five seater, you’ll also be looking for something that will be capable of towing a decent sized trailer. Camping excursions are a breeze with the ability of the Hyundai iX35 to pull a 750 kg un-braked trailer weight. Of course, the Hyundai iX35 has the handy roof rails to fix extra luggage to, as well.
You will find the Hyundai iX35 a very well balanced machine, boasting plenty of grip. It does not take very long to appreciate the iX35’s ability to be pushed along at a good clip. Impressive brakes and accurate steering ensure that the driver remains confident at the wheel.
