Infiniti is Nissan’s premium brand – just like Lexus is Toyota’s premium brand. 2018 offers us a new Infiniti Q60 coupe which sets itself right up against the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupe, BMW 4 Series Coupe, Lexus RC Coupe and Audi’s A5 Coupe. For those who like a car with coupe lines, exclusivity and distinctive looks, the new Infiniti Q60 Coupe has it all.
Get inside the Infiniti Q60 and you’ll also find that the beautiful exterior is backed up by a gorgeous interior with full leather with accented stitching and impeccable craftsmanship that’s as good as you’ll find in any new luxury coupe. The feeling that you’re driving something a bit more exclusive and special is there; the feeling of exotic luxury is there, and Infiniti Q60 Coupes are capable performers.
Practical features include good storage space inside the cabin. The centre console has two handy USB ports alongside deep storage space and there are decent cup holders in the front to hold your Flat White on the way to work. Seat comfort is excellent for those in the front, and rear seat passengers are comfortably snug. What is a little tight is headroom in the back seats, so if you’re tall then you best get first dibs on the front seats!
Head to the boot and you’ll find that the silver button to open it is incorporated in the tail lights – which is pretty cool but if you’re not expecting that then you might be staring and wondering where it is for some time. Boot space is useful and probably more in tow with the car being perfect for two occupants than for carrying the entire family away for the weekend. Actually, most buyers will use it as a joy ride to work and a weekend away for two, I suspect – while they’ll have a sensible family hack for the practical grind.
Luxury features in a new Infiniti Q60 include electronically adjustable and heated front seats, leather upholstery, a rear view camera, power windows, front and rear parking sensors, beautiful LED headlights, traffic sign recognition and forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Active Lane Control uses sensors to maintain the cars position on the right side of the road even around corners. Pretty clever, if not slightly unnerving!
For powering the 2018 Infiniti Q60 you have a choice between a very smooth and quick V6 twin-turbo petrol with AWD, and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with RWD that sees the 0-100 km/h dash done in 7.5 seconds. Performance freaks will adore the AWD thrust of the V6 which delivers 298 kW at 6400 rpm and 475 Nm of torque at 5200 rpm. The V6 engine powers the coupe through to 100 from a standstill in around 5.5 seconds and is good for above 270 km/h.
Many car buyers will be looking to the Germans for their sporty Coupe drive based on the equivalent sedan. However, from left field the Infiniti Q60 offers a different coupe style and plenty of prestige to make it unique and, dare I say it, exotic! There are fewer Lexus RC and Infiniti Q60 coupes on the road than their German rivals – and for now I think that’s a good thing.
The 2018 Infiniti Q60 model series includes the:
