Jaguar is loaded up and ready to shoot with its fiery new SVR SUV, and this is deemed the sportiest SUV Jaguar has ever built. Ready and loaded, the 2019 Jaguar F-Pace SVR packs plenty of power to catapult it to the top of the sports luxury SUV wish list. This is a very desirable vehicle and, as we know how emphatically good the new Jaguar engines are, the SVR supercharged V8 is everything a driving enthusiast could wish for. If you need a vehicle with SUV family space but just can’t bear to be without the mean power, then this has to be a deal for you!
Acceleration is a Jaguar F-Pace SVR strong point, so-much-so that even rival vehicles like the Porsche Macan Turbo are trumped. Angry and fast, the SVR F-Pace is all about speed and the special driving experience in a luxury environment. Yes, Jaguar makes some of the nicest luxury cars in the world, but don’t forget that they also make some of the nicest sports luxury cars in the world as well. Too often Jaguar has gotten slung into the shadows of the big German brands like the M-Series BMW or AMG Merc cars, but not anymore. You can’t come away after driving something as shatteringly quick as an SVR Jag and not be impressed.
SVR cars come from out of Jaguar’s ‘Special Vehicle Operations’ team of engineers and designers. What you get from SVR is the fastest Jags with all that wonderful level of luxury and technology we have all come to enjoy. And, few cars are sounding quite as good as these new supercharged Jaguar V8s.
Under the hood of the Jaguar F-Pace SVR is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 with 405 kW of power and 680 Nm of torque. How does that stack up against its main rivals? Alfa’s Stelvio Quadrifoglio has 375 kW and 600 Nm coming from its 2.9-litre, 6-cylinder Bi-Turbo engine. It’s superbly fast. BMW’s X6M boasts 423 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque from its Bi-Turbo direct fuel injection V8 petrol. It’s also superbly quick. The Mercedes Benz 4.0-litre V8 AMG GLC 63 S boasts 375 kW and 700 Nm and runs a sub 4.0 second dash through to 100 km/h. Porsche has a Cayenne with similar F-Pace SVR power.
Ok then, here’s the deal. The new Jaguar F-Pace SVR not only sounds sublime when running the 0-100 km/h sprint but it shelves it in a smidgeon over 4.0 seconds. That is fast and makes it more than capable of running with other insanely quick SUVs. The crackly exhaust note ensures that you’re enjoying every minute of the drive but it definitely alerts passers-by that something pretty quick is on its way!
An electronic active differential and AWD combo deliver superb traction on all road surfaces, and I’m impressed with the car’s ability even in the wet. Normal, Dynamic and Comfort driving modes are standard, and they definitely make a difference depending on your driving style and mood on the day. I’ve got to say that for most drivers the Normal and even Comfort modes will deliver everything you’ll really want for your daily drive, with a quick squirt on the gas pedal every now and then to do the trick. It is a bit of a monster when Dynamic mode is selected.
Bigger brakes, a firmer suspension and lightweight wheels are SVR F-Pace individual tweaks to ensure that the SVR ride and handling match the phenomenal SVR power. A specially designed aerodynamics kit not only looks menacing but is all purpose built for optimum road holding and maximum engine performance.
Inside the Jaguar F-Pace SVR luxury abounds with nice blends of sportiness for good measure. The recipe is great and captures the heart the moment you climb aboard. Seating is magical; the finely detailed leather sports seats look awesome, boast some chrome inserts, and are superbly snug and comfortable. The digital driver’s display is really nice and has different background settings for the driver to choose between. A red background suits the SVR’s fiery nature. In the centre of the dash is a big touchscreen for all the modern infotainment features that premium luxury cars deliver. Nicely laid out buttons underneath the touchscreen are simple to use, easy to read and control features like heated seating, fan settings and the climate control. The driver has the use of a sports automatic gear shift, with paddle shifters included.
You’ll enjoy loads of modern techie stuff like parking sensors, parking cameras, engine data, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, web browsing ability, phone communications, voice control, Heads-Up Display, remote access, Bluetooth, Dynamic-I, ambient cabin lighting, satellite navigation, electric seats, a powered tailgate, powered windows, premium audio sound, and you can even alter the engine, steering, suspension and gearshift thanks to adaptive driving mode settings.
There are also other very fine F-Pace models with various engine configurations. Petrol models with RWD and AWD, as well as a range of excellent turbo diesel models with RWD or AWD are available.
Overthrowing the heavyweight leaders in the sports luxury SUV world is no mean feat, but I think Jaguar has done it with this scintillatingly quick and totally engaging SVR F-Pace machine. Yet, the Jaguar F‑PACE has a class-leading boot capacity of 508 litres and a versatile 40:20:40 rear seat folding configuration. Sport and practicality blend to create the new F-Pace SVR. Insubordinate cars like the SVR don’t tow the line, as you might expect a more civilised SUV to do, they create their future. Jaguar’s new F-Pace SVR is set to breathe fresh life into a congested sports SUV world.
