Jaguar have recently made the latest version of the F-Type Coupe and Convertible available for us in Australia. What a sensational car!
Jag’s F-Type R Coupe boasts the supercharged V8 under the bonnet and it is all about performance. It’s super quick, so will whip the 0–100 km/h sprint in a mere 3.8 seconds, 0–200 km/h in around 12 seconds, the quarter mile in 12.2 seconds, 0–300 km/h (top speed) in under a minute. The Convertible is similarly as quick in the sprints.
What a raucous and what a hoot driving this thing. The V8 engine noise is sublime and totally entertaining. A thoughtful feature that Jag has made available is that the F-Type will start up in quiet mode so that you don’t annoy the neighbours with the raucous exhaust system. You can override it if you wish, but it’s probably best to keep things quiet early in the morning for at least a few blocks anyway – hehe!
A bit over 300 litres of boot space is present for stashing away a few bags for that romantic trip away with your Darling. As a two-seater sports car, the Jaguar F-Type is hard to beat. Excellent road holding and driving dynamics link with the incredible brakes and powerful performance superbly. When you come to travelling over less than average road surfaces, the new Jaguar F-Type has a range of damper settings that includes a comfort mode for riding over the rough surfaces very well, indeed. As entertaining as the new F-Type is for driving hard out, there comes a time – more often than not – where you need to settle down and blend in with the commuting traffic and stay on the right side of the law. Its ability to do just that and do it so well makes the new F-Type a superb GT car for two people – what a lovely way to see the sights in both Coupe or Convertible form.
Features like lane keep assist and cruise control do make the weekend getaway more relaxing and less stressful. An active cruise control that keeps you a safe distance from the car in front would be a good edition for the next F-Type, but what’s the point of not being quite as engaged with the sensational F-Type driving experience and falling asleep at the wheel?!
Both the Convertible and the Coupe come with a range of engines, so you can still enjoy the Jag experience at a much friendlier price for your wallet to handle. You may need to twist Jaguar dealer’s arms to get the least-powered versions of the Jag F-Types over to Oz. However, you can easily get a hold of the V8s. If you don’t need the insane speeds of the supercharged V8 or even the standard V8s, then there are other options.
The range kicks off with the 4-cylinder, 2.0-litre Turbo petrol, harnessing as much as 221 kW and 400 Nm of torque. This RWD only model is still very quick and can get the 0–100 km/h job done in around 5.5 seconds. Next in line comes a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 F-Type with 280 kW and 460 Nm. It can do 0–100 km/h in around 5.0 seconds and comes in RWD or you can have it in AWD for a little more dosh. A 5.0-litre supercharged V8 with 331 kW and 580 Nm of torque gets the drive into very serious performance potential territory. You can easily get this one in Australia, with its 0–100 km/h done and dusted in around 4.5 seconds. It can be had with RWD or AWD. The F-Type R, another easily accessible version for Australia, as mentioned nearer the beginning gets AWD as standard, 423 kW of power and 700 Nm of torque. All 2022 Jaguar F-Types are automatics.
As far as the touchscreen goes, it’s a pretty nice unit with all the decent music software and phone connecting ability. The system itself gets continuous updates for software, so it takes care of itself really. Heated seats, leather upholstery, air vents that pop up out of the dashboard, the accented leather, the distinctive Jaguar cat on the steering wheel, zoned climate control, yeah, it’s a rather nice and special interior that’s fit for a car as unique as this.
Looks? Well, is there any other car on the road that is as sweet as the new F-Type? Doesn’t it look incredibly sexy – and this was a facelift! It looks beautiful and almost like a totally new car. It isn’t, but the exterior would suggest otherwise. The front nose is wider and more aggressive. As far as road presence goes, it looks the business. Enjoy!
