You’ve got to admit that the Jaguar XF models are extremely eye-catching. Just the other day, I saw an XF model swiftly consuming the road, and the presence the car held was a class above. Distinctive L shaped LED day running lights vividly shone in the broad daylight, while the car’s aerodynamics were blatantly performance orientated. The new Jaguar XFS is a writer’s pick model because the wonderful blend of sport and luxury is hard to match. When driving Jaguars, there is an aura about them that nearly all motorcar enthusiasts appreciate, and it’s a warm quality that not many other manufacturers are able to replicate. Let’s take a closer look.
Slipping inside the Jaguar XFS, one notes that the modern cabin has copious sophistication with plenty of lavish materials and trim that attract a feeling of warmth and homeliness. A choice of options are available, but always there’s a touch of class like the accented leather stitching for the dash and seats, and super curvaceous seats that are perfectly sculptured to envelope the human frame. Optional veneer trims are simply stunning and, call me a traditionalist, but I do love the Gloss Burr Walnut trim combined with tanned premium leather.
A roominess in the front and rear seats is welcoming, particularly for those blessed with additional height, and even without the electric glass roof fully open there is heaps of healthy light that streams inside the Jaguar XFS interior space. Electronic seat adjustment takes care of your seating position behind the car’s compact steering wheel, and the view over the bulging bonnet reminds you that there are plenty of horses under the hood ready to run free. Both front seat occupants will enjoy the heated seat function.
Along with the warm interior materials, Jaguar provides a top-class level of technology and sophistication. One of the features that I have come to appreciate is Cruise Control. Its effortless, relaxed feel ensures that you stick to the speed limits and arrive at your destination safe and sound. In the Jaguar XFS, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with an Intelligent Emergency Brake (IEB) system provides even safer cruising. A Blind Spot Monitor and other superior safety equipment make this a real safe sports/luxury sedan for all driving situations. Voice control is standard and is a popular feature with many – a great hit with teenage boys.
On the road the Jaguar XFS tracks perfectly, providing loads of confidence for high speed travel whether down a never-ending strait or pushing through a twisty back road. In town, the supple suspension is superb, and whatever your speed, the cabin remains a quiet, serene affair. Without the intrusion of road noise and wind, the Jaguar XFS has perfect acoustics for the Meridian Surround Sound audio system that boasts 825 Watts of pure melodious pleasure.
Power for the Jaguar XFS comes from a choice of engines. Very advanced and efficient is Jaguar’s new 2.2 Litre AJ-i4 Diesel engine. A promise of a combined fuel economy cycle of a little over 5 litres/100 km is stunning for a car as roomy as the new XFS. A new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission links engine power with the road, and Intelligent Stop/Start technology and a Twin Solenoid Starter make this the most efficient Jaguar ever. Maximum torque is a very healthy 450 Nm.
Petrol powered and 2.0-litre in its capacity, the six-cylinder power plant is a tough and strong engine. Maximum power of 177 kW ensures that you cover the ground quickly, and being linked to the eight-speed electronic automatic transmission helps to reduce emissions and consumption without compromising XFS performance characteristics. A 0-100 km/h sprint time of around eight seconds is always going to feel swift.
If you like diesel engines and need even more power, then there are two 3.0-litre V6 Diesel engines that can make 177 kW and 202 kW respectively. A parallel sequential turbo-boosting system provides immediate response at any engine revs making these models very punchy and flexible. Massive torque outputs provide serious grins, while the acceleration times for the 0-100 km/h dash are 7.1 seconds and 6.4 seconds respectively for the two 3.0-litre Diesel versions. You can’t argue with 6.0 litres/100 km fuel efficiency!
The last engines to consider for powering the XFS are highly addictive performance petrol engines. Supercharged V8 power (375 kW) is for the top model, while a very punchy supercharged V6 with 250 kW and 450 Nm makes for a Jaguar XFS ready to pounce.
