Flashed up and full of nice equipment the modern Kia Cerato Sedan loves the city life and takes motorway trips in its stride. The best bit is it’s not going to break the bank to purchase this roomy little Asian sedan. Styling is likable and the engine loves to get down to work.
Depending on which new Kia Cerato Sedan you’re looking at, it’ll differ slightly between models on what gizmos, upholstery and premium safety features are on offer but even I could live with the Cerato S quite happily indeed. Well, there’s not much to compare when it comes to engines because, actually, there’s only the one. You’ll have to get used to the sprightly little MPI 2.0-litre petrol with 112 kW because this is the motor that spins the wheels and gets you from A-to-B with little fuss and commendable efficiency. However, a Kia Cerato Sedan offers the choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic, whichever model you end up with – and there are three.
Let’s start with the S model because if you want the cheapest then this is it. For around the $20k mark you have yourself a stylish sedan with plenty of room and loads of equipment. When it comes to safety you have all the amazing life-saving equipment that includes: dual frontal, side chest and side head-protecting airbags (curtains). Advanced seat belt reminders are fitted to all seats, while autonomous braking, ESC, EBA, ABS, Hill Launch Assist and seat belt pre-tensioners are all present. These days you’re going to stand out like a shag on a rock if you don’t come up trumps in the ANCAP crash testing procedure, so you can rest assured that the 2018 Kia Cerato Sedan has the full five stars. Premium models even get one-or-two extra safety features, but more on that later.
So, back to what’s on board a standard Cerato Sedan – well how about an anti-theft immobiliser, keyless entry, a burglar alarm, nice smart cloth seats, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, a front console arm rest, a rear seat arm rest, heated electric wing mirrors, a chrome grille, mirror indicators, cruise control with steering wheel mounted controls, an LCD instrument cluster, power windows, a rear window defroster with timer, an interior light delay mechanism, a 12V power outlet in the front console, two USB charger points, four cup holders, four bottle holders, coat hooks, an MP3 compatible audio system, DAB radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (both with voice recognition), six speakers, Bluetooth functionality, speed dependant volume control and manual air-conditioning system to name some of the items. There is more, but I’m sure you’d start skipping to the next paragraph.
Kia Cerato Sport models get what the S has but the seats are a cloth material with a nice ‘Sport’ pattern. You’ll also get a flasher steering wheel material and a gear knob with classier trim, along with illuminated vanity mirrors to shave your chin, apply lipstick or do your teeth at night. A set of 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the 16-inchers on the S model and satellite navigation is a nice extra touch.
This leaves us with the Kia Cerato Sport + Sedan, and if you run to the extra $6k-odd difference over the S model, then you’ll enjoy things like snazzy 18-inch alloys, pedestrian and cyclist avoidance systems, a Smart Key with push button start, leather seats, power folding wing mirrors, smart cruise control, an illuminated glove box, satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, rear air vents and heated front seats.
You’ll certainly look the part in a brand new Cerato sedan. There are very few complaints about the styling. Sporty detailing in the form of a deep front spoiler, broad shoulders, LED headlights, DRLs, trimmings to the rear bumper corners and aerodynamic styling is set to make you look the part on glitzy city streets and in the night life.
Park your new Cerato on any city ‘Cerro’, which in English means hill or mountain, and the Hill Assist makes driving away from a standstill so easy! Ride is nice and comfortable, handling taut and accurate.
So don’t be left behind and take a look at the nice new Kia Cerato sedan. It’s a great package. The new multimedia system is one of the best for the money; cabin space is excellent, boot space 520 litres, nice interior materials and even a superb 7-year unlimited km warranty round up this fantastic small sedan.
