Hugely racy for what is essentially a city car, the 2018 Kia Picanto GT-Line has plenty of street cred. Boasting chic sporty looks, both inside and out, the all-new Picanto GT-Line is an irresistible small hatch – or in other terms supermini.
A small supermini with a big face and a big ticker, this is the type of hatch you’ll want to be seen in while out shopping the town. From the classy interplay of colours that highlight the GT-Line traits, big glossy air intakes, to the twin exhausts at the back, the new Kia Picanto GT-Line flaunts itself with plenty of sex-appeal from every angle. A set of 16-inch polished alloy wheels adds the finishing touches to a little hatch with big servings of style and panache. Kia knows how to create dynamic, award winning designs and I Iove the creative, fresh styling used in the new 2018 Gt-Line Picanto.
Supermini interiors can sometimes squeeze out the style because space is a premium, however not so with the Picanto GT-Line. Kia has served up a treat in the catchy look of the GT-Line premium seats, dash and trim. From striking red accents on the leather seats to premium finishes about the cabin, the interior is designed to be noticed and enjoyed. Each new drive will be a special experience in the Picanto GT-Line. There are some other nice interior features just for the sporty GT-Line variety, and they include a premium chunky steering wheel and gear knob, alloy sport pedals and a glossy centre fascia.
At the press of the accelerator, the little Picanto gets up and goes with an energetic pace and lively response. The engine is a 1.2-litre, DOHC MPI petrol-fed motor packing 62 kW at 6000 rpm and 122 Nm at 4000 rpm. Climb through the revs via the 4-speed auto and the Picanto can be plenty of fun, with its grippy handling and accurate steering. The car’s weight comes in at 995 kg, so the light bodyweight and tiny dimensions provide a driving experience which is zippy and perfectly suited to congested city streets. Ride quality is very good for a car of such small dimensions.
The Picanto can seat four adults happily in the interior with a useful 255 litres of cargo space behind the rear seats. The rear seats can be folded down to provide 1010 litres but then you’ll have to drop of the rear seat passengers! The rear seats are 60:40 split folding for a bit more practicality. There are two cup holders, two bottle holders, map pockets in the front doors, a roomy glovebox, a floor console storage tray, a front passenger seat back pocket, a coat hook, luggage net hooks in the cargo area and a luggage screen, so the Picanto GT-Line has a practical side to its sporty flavouring. Two nice features that set the 2018 Kia Picanto GT-Line supermini from its siblings are the premium sport seats with plenty of comfort and support and height adjustable front seatbelts.
Kia keeps ahead of the game by equipping their cars with plenty of features, and that’s why a 7-inch colour LCD touch screen with an MP3 compatible audio player and AM/FM tuner, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, Bluetooth connectivity (with phone/address book/media stream), AUX/USB input with iPod compatibility, Android Auto with voice recognition, Apple CarPlay with voice recognition, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a roof mounted antenna, air-conditioning, cruise control with steering wheel mounted controls, a digital clock, an ambient temperature display, power windows (front and rear), an interior light with delay out timing, a rear window defroster with timer, a 12 volt power outlet in the front console, a USB charging port in the front console, and driver and passenger sun visors with vanity mirrors are all part of the Picanto GT-Line experience.
Kia Piacantos are solidly built with side-door impact beams and a rigid safety cage. They also offer safety equipment like: airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, a front seatbelt load limiter, front and rear head airbags, and chest and pelvic airbags for front occupants. ABS, EBD, ESC, TCS, Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), HAC (Hill-start Assist Control), seatbelt reminders for all positions, reverse parking sensors, a rear view camera with parking guidelines, dusk-sensing automatic headlights, rear fog lights, child restraint anchorage points, ISOFIX, 3-point ELR seatbelts on all positions, AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) with an FCWS (Forward Collision Warning System), LED DRLs and Halogen projection fog lights are also part of the Picanto safety package.
It’s sometimes a given that we’re going to search for a car that we want to be noticed in. We all have our favourites and personal preferences, but it’s hard not to fall in love with the cheeky little Kia Picanto GT-Line supermini!
