If you get yourself into a sticky off-road situation there are a few vehicles that are more likely to get out of it than others. It’s almost guaranteed that a Land Rover will be amongst the chosen machines to get you through. Land Rovers have morphed into totally new beasts since the introduction of the rugged little Land Rover back in the late 1940s. With all the modern day technology, the new Land Rover is quite a vehicle for traversing off-road terrain. Add to that more power and some amazing comfort features, and a Land Rover is a highly desirable 4×4 SUV. One of the best of the new Land Rovers is the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4.
All-new, the latest generation Land Rover Discovery Sport is sleeker and more aerodynamic than ever. The results are not only attractive looks but more efficiency and greater agility being part of the new Discovery’s genes. The Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4 is much more compact than the outgoing Discovery, although there is still seating available for up to seven occupants, room inside the new model is less. However, it’s still easy to get yourself comfortable in the first five seats. The third row is a little tighter, and is suitable for kids only. With five seats in place, there is a very useful 541 litres of luggage space, ready for carrying lots of stuff for a weekend break. The seats in the second row are raised higher than the front seats for greater viewing, and they can be 50:50 split folded with a quick flick of a button.
As you would expect, the Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4 is an off-road king. With features like torque vectoring for each individual wheel via a clever braking system, adaptive drive dynamics with MagneRide, and on-the-go Terrain Response allows for some really tenacious grip and control whatever the surface and terrain angle. Having been in an earlier Discovery model on a steep slippery shingle slope, the way the Discovery ambled down, at what was quite a precarious angle, was nothing short of breath-taking. A Wade Sensing system is a clever addition, and this keeps you out of water that is just too deep.
Safety features on-board the new Discovery Sport TD4 makes this one of the safest vehicles on the road. Autonomous Emergency braking, Blind Spot Monitoring, stability control, ABS and airbags for Africa mean that you are very well looked after in the event of a collision, though they are always best avoided!
Power for the Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4 comes in the form of a flexible 2.2-litre turbo-diesel with 110 kW. But more importantly is the maximum torque of 400 Nm that is available from as low as 1750 rpm. A 0-100 km/h sprint can be performed in a little over 10 seconds, which is very good considering all the modern gadgetry it is pushing along. When it comes to fuel economy, the Discovery Sport TD4 returns an average of 5.5 to 5.7 litres/100 km at best, and usually no more than 7.5 litres/100 km (Land Rover claimed). Cruising out on the open road is an effortless joy.
Get yourself ready for your next adventure in arguably the best compact SUV on the market and drive a new Land Rover Discovery Sport TD4. They are very well equipped with luxury and modern technology.
