I bet you like the Range Rover Sport. Isn’t it a picture of power, capability, room and luxury! Premium levels of prestige and comfort blend with an awesome array of up-dated engines.
Range Rover’s design team have tweaked the old model here and there to create a pleasant blend of style and sport. The perforated front grille and side vents give a strong, assertive appearance. There are Xenon headlamps with the Range Rover Sport, and the ‘concentric circle’ LEDs finish the nose off nicely. Add a choice of stylish 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels, and you make quite a statement.
Each new Range Rover Sport has an acoustic windscreen and laminated front side windows. Inside there is the luxury of leather seats – electrically adjustable for driver and front passenger as well as a choice of either walnut veneer or Anigre gloss finish for the centre console and door inserts.
The push-button start is funky. And all the gadgets are there: Automatic climate control, a harman/kardon audio system with Portable Audio Interface for iPod® and MP3, as well as Hard Disk Drive Premium Navigation system. Land Rover’s unique Terrain Response® system is standard. So is four channel, all-terrain anti-lock braking.
My family and I were up the river bed the other day enjoying the sunshine and shimmering light sparkling off the water. The kids stripped off and jumped into the water for a swim; however it was a tad chilly for the oldies. Our trusty four wheel drive did a great job in getting us to our location. Still, I can imagine the ease with which the brand new Range Rover Sport would tackle river beds and steep declines.
Considered as the ultimate four-wheel-drive vehicle for some time now, the Range Rover oozes class. You only need to look at the exterior to appreciate that this machine can do the business.
The Range Rover Sport looks tough. A big presence, massive size and sensational sporty looks give the talented full-time four-wheel-drive every visual indication that this is the ultimate 4×4. Prominent at the front of the Range Rover Sport is the wide and integrated front bumpers which only emphasise the Range Rover‘s striking presence. Bi-xenon headlights provide a classy nose whilst providing exceptional illumination on the road ahead at night. You will notice along the side of the big 4×4 there are power vents that are situated forward of the front doors. The Vogue side power vents look superb with their platinum finish mesh and Titan surround to optimise airflow. At the rear of the Range Rover Sport is a very neat, very Smart finish that is nimble in its appearance. Two exhaust pipes suggest the potential power lying within. Superb alloys complete the package.
Make no mistake, these vehicles are made for the toughest terrain, but at Range Rover, they like to lavish their vehicles with sensational luxury and comfort. And boy-oh-boy, the interior is plush! Graced with the finest interiors, superior leather material, heated seats -also cooling, a heated steering wheel, four zone climate control, a Bluetooth Connectivity system (allowing calls to be made via voice control, steering wheel operation or via the touch-screen) you are pampered. You can also enter (or update) details into the vehicle’s phone book with the sound of your voice, and control the audio and navigation system via spoken command. Range Rover Vogue’s premium navigation system (standard on all versions) guides you with a combination of map, text and voice instructions, with a single data DVD covering all of Australia. And I love this feature: the off-road, way-marking will keep track of where you’ve been, and will help you find your way home. We can’t be the only couple nuts enough to want to tackle the Outback, and I can’t think of a better machine to travel these adventures in.
Buying a Range Rover means that you’ll be buying the most technologically advanced 4×4 system in the world. With a maximum power output of 291kW and a top torque figure of 550 Nm, there is colossal power to take you through the toughest terrain. The Range Rover Sport’s V8 petrol engine growls and charges with unstoppable power and refinement. Acceleration is incredible, and high speed touring is so quiet and well-balanced that you could swear you were in a luxury sports car.
More power is now available with the Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged model. An incredible 375 kW of power is at your right foot – so too is625 Nm of torque. It’s big and it’s bold, and it will easily run on to 225 km/h given half a chance. Dispatching the 0-100 km/h sprint in only 6.2 seconds is phenomenally quick for what is a superior off-road vehicle – let alone on-road.
Let’s not forget that the diesel alternative is even more capacious in torque extravagance. The maximum turbo-diesel power of 200 kW kicks in at 4400 rpm and has a massive twist in its tale. An amazing 640 Nm is on tap, so you can imagine that this thing almost walks on water. Diesel efficiency has been improved 30%, giving the Range Rover Sport the potential for 11.1 litres/100 km.
This is a big vehicle so it is pleasing to see that a reversing camera comes as standard. Also the size means that there are no others on the road bigger than you other than trucks. I would not want to face off a Range Rover Sport in a collision – even in a light truck. Stacked to the hilt with the very best safety equipment, the Range Rover Sport is superbly well equipped for the worst scenarios eventuating. Front, head and side airbags are fitted as standard for driver and front passenger, with head airbags for rear passengers too. An enhanced airbag plan places the side airbags in the seats, to improve side impact protection. Knee bolsters are also in place to protect the front occupants during an accident. Active safety features include a number of advanced braking aids. A combination of ABS brakes and Emergency Brake Assist provides outstanding control when sudden braking is essential. The new front seats feature active headrests, incorporating an Integrated Whiplash Protection System that moves the headrest forward during an accident that is likely to cause whiplash injuries, such as low-impact vehicle collisions. And with a commanding driving position and a weight factor of well over two tonnes, you are travelling in a very secure and safe cacoon.
Test drive the new Range Rover Sport today. You’ll be stunned.
