The years 2023 and 2024 have some great-looking new convertibles already vying for the new car buyers’ attention (meaning buyers of new cars – although if you’re a new buyer of cars, you could be lucky to make this your first).  Granted, the convertible car is a niche market and the number of new-car buyers on the lookout for a convertible will be small.  But what a group of great cars to buy from!  Cars like the Audi S5, Bently Continental GT, BMW Z4, BMW 4 Series, other Beemers like the 8 Series Convertible, the Ford Mustang, Mazda MX-5, Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 911, the Jaguar F-Type, Aston Martin, Mercedes Benz, and Ferrari are in the list.  These all have a convertible option to tempt a buyer who loves their hair ruffled on a nice warm summer’s day.  The good news is that there is a whole lot to like about the 2023/2024 Lexus LC Convertible, which is a contender for a spot on that list. 

There will always be a space for another great convertible to drive.  You will need to have a few spare dollars in your account for cars like a Lexus LC or a Bentley Continental, because a new Lexus LC Convertible is asking well beyond what a Mazda MX-5, a Ford Mustang Convertible, or even a BMW 4 Series is priced at.  Still, it does have one of the best-sounding V8s in the business and, by crikey, it’s dynamic! 

When you drive a stylish convertible like the Lexus LC, the open road can be a calm and soothing place to cruise the scenic route on a well-earned holiday break away.  The LC Convertible feels exquisitely composed, in tune with the road, and effortlessly powerful.  A main highway or zig-zagging mountain pass can be wild and exhilarating, no matter how heavy your right foot is on the V8 that lies underneath the bonnet of the quick Lexus LC Convertible.  

There’s no doubt about the performance side of the equation: the Lexus V8 is a quick engine in anyone’s mind, whatever way you look at it.  And it sounds just awesome too, burbling and cracking away as you flex the right foot.  The 5.0-litre V8 beckons to be driven hard and is more than up to the task.  A maximum power of 351 kW marries with a lusty 540 Nm of torque, fed out to the sublime rear-wheel-driven chassis, which has a fantastic way of being able to soak up the bumps and remain agile and taut as you toast the tyres in a quick scamper around a track or over a mountain pass. 

Lexus say that the 2024 LC Convertible is good for topping 270 km/h and, given the full shove, will sprint through from zero to 100 kilometres per hour in a mighty flash, or a more mathematically precise 5.0 seconds flat.  The pick-up is glorious – the 80–120 km/h passing manoeuvre done and dusted in a little over 4.0 seconds. 

But fast or slow, if you want the most fun for your buck, there’s really only the one answer when it comes to cars.  It has to be a convertible all the time.  You could get the Lexus LC Coupe, I suppose – and why not?  Is the Lexus LC Convertible impractical?  Absolutely, at least for most of the time; like for when you need to take the dog to the vet, or take more than just yourself and your spouse to the show, or when you move house.  But that’s it!  You buy a convertible for that indescribable feeling of wind in your hair and sun on your face.  Long may the countless childlike grins continue from generation after generation of people who love to drive cars just like the new sports/luxury Lexus LC Convertible. 

Of course, the 2024 Lexus LC Convertible is loaded with all the latest technology, safety, and style.  For goodness’ sake, its price is well north of $200k at the time of writing, so you’d expect nothing less.  But there’s another thing worth noting before I close about the Lexus, and it’s this: that these LC V8s are probably one of the most reliable convertibles on the road, alongside the mighty Mazda MX-5.  This really is your chance to leave your cares behind, even if just for a few hours, and take the sleek new Lexus LC Convertible V8 out for that drive along the boulevard or the scenic route.
