I can’t be biased here… can I? But, because I happen to own a Mazda, perhaps I should say here that I am very pleased with the way the old girl performs, has copious levels of room and boasts rock solid reliability. Can this be said of the very classy Mazda CX-7 Classic? Let’s find out.
Bowling on up to the newly designed Mazda CX-7 Classic, it is evident from the outside that this roomy five-seater looks very nice. The raised C-pillar line looks sharp and adds to the high waistline’s powerful look. The large, flared wheel arches are big for a reason. They embrace some of the best looking 17-inch alloy wheels around. Stand over the front end and you notice a pretty face that has great looking eyes, a prominent nose that displays jewellery in the form of a good dollop of chrome, and a chin that boasts a low-cut air dam that gives a finely honed look. The tight back end is simply gorgeous and has a large colour coded bumper protruding from below some of the best looking taillights in the business. Like an athlete ready to sprint, the Mazda CX-7 Classic has superior exterior lines that give it an edge over the less distinctive competition. You’ll be looking your best seated inside the Mazda CX-7 Classic.
What’s under the hood? There are plenty of horses to pull this wagon. Kicking up the dust behind is a zesty 120 kW 2.5 litre four-cylinder boasting high torque levels from very low down in the rev range. The motor always feels plenty strong, even from just 2000 rpm. A maximum of 205 Nm is available at this level all the way across a very flat torque curve. I love the way the power pours on smoothly, making the Mazda CX-7 Classic very relaxed to drive under normal everyday situations. You are linked up with a five-speed automatic gearbox that is quick to move and always ready to flick upward when required. An attractive low throaty growl evidently responds from under the hood via electronic throttle response when a heavy right foot is applied to the accelerator. You will find the CX-7 enjoyable to drive as the nimble chassis offers class leading grip and feel. Mazda’s mechanical componentry is amongst the best automotive gear around. Incredible reliability and legendary long-lasting mechanics make a Mazda a joy to live with.
Interior design is as good-looking as the mod exterior. Roomy seats, plush seat upholstery, refined trim materials and excellent build quality make the long term relationship a pleasant one. The kids will enjoy the LOUD sound system, the teenagers the massive list of electronic goodies, and the parents the wide back seat… I mean the high level of luggage carrying capacity. There are plenty of storage compartments on board, and the luxury list is long – even in the Classic entry level model. There is 400 litres of luggage space that grows substantially when the seats are folded down.
I’ll just add here that the Mazda CX-7 performs very well in the crash test results. Dual front airbags, side airbags and head-protecting side curtains are standard equipment. Antilock brakes (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD) and electronic stability control (ESC) are also standard. Advanced seat belt reminders are fitted to both front seats. Five star ANCAP safety results for the CX-7 means that you and your family are boarding a leader in automotive protection, design and implementation.
Take the Mazda CX-7 Classic for a gallop, and you will be very impressed with the way the vehicle performs, rides and handles. Mazda CX-7 reliability is a given, especially when you consider Mazda’s envied dependability status. And, thestyle, interior comfort and space will pull on your heart strings. So be warned; a test drive in the Mazda CX-7 has a high chance of resulting in a happy purchase.
