Full of flavour and ripe for the picking is the new Mazda6 Sedan. I can’t remember a Mazda6 or Mazda 626 ever looking as good as this one does, so the Mazda KODO design philosophy of capturing an animal closing in on its prey really works. I can see the cheetah’s sleek and fast body lines subtly shown in the Mazda6 Sedan’s low profile lines and aerodynamic shape. Little wonder, then, that the new Mazda 6 design has won many awards for its striking appearance.
Roomy dimensions are hidden very well in the car’s sporty form. Offering a rear seat bench that provides class leading leg, shoulder and hip room, the Mazda6 foots it with the best from Honda, Toyota and Mercedes Benz. The width of the vehicle hits 1840 mm, so the clever use of all that breadth allows for great seating comfort in the rear and the front of the vehicle, too.
One of the styling characteristics of the new Mazda 6 sedan is that the car’s design is never cluttered or overdone. Beauty can be simply great looks, balance and ease of function, and the Mazda6 sedan has hit the right note perfectly. Full of up-to-the-minute technology, the Mazda6 switchgear, display screen and buttons manage the highly sophisticated electronics in a clear-cut, easy-to-use fashion – just the way it should be, and just the way I like it.
Dual-zone climate control, hands free Bluetooth communications, cruise control, door bottle holders, overhead sunglasses storage, cloth (Mazda6 Sport Sedan) or leather upholstery (all other models) and rain sensing wipers are all the goodies you can look forward to. There is so much on offer, that all the Mazda6 Sedans are very well equipped cars in standard form, negating the need for looking at the accessory list options. But if you just want the lot, then there are things like retractable USB cables, an iPad holder for the rear seats, a heap of different roof rack options and exterior things like mud guards and bonnet protectors.
The Mazda6 sedan offers 438 litres of cargo space in the boot, along with a handy 1500 kg towing capacity for a braked trailer. Don’t forget that the rear seat backrests are 60:40 split folding, so the carrying capacity of the new Mazda6 Sedan is exceptional. As far as comfort, reliability and practicality goes, the all new Mazda6 Sedan is going to be very hard to beat as it sets new standards for the medium-size car bracket.
On the road, the Mazda6 sedan is highly balanced and composed, while the stopping power of the Electronic brake Assist componentry is first class. Mazda have provided the Mazda6 sedan with a new chassis, new gearbox and exciting new safety technology to make the car the best, yet. There is one petrol engine and one diesel engine offered, and no less than seven variants to choose from. Both the petrol and diesel engines feel very athletic and powerful, while the retention of smooth, quiet engine response is felt throughout the engine revs. A full 420 Nm of torque from as low as 2000 rpm makes the diesel an exceptional powerhouse for carrying the family and luggage away for the weekend. SKYACTIV Technology is used in the Mazda6 engine designs and the blend of performance and fuel economy is awesome. A combined fuel economy figure of 6.6 litres/100 km for the petrol and 5.4 litres/100 km for the diesel has to be regarded as outstanding.
Priced from the mid-thirties to the fifties, a new Mazda6 is an elegant, bulletproof sedan that has all the looks, performance and luxury you’ll need. It would take a hard man to turn one of these beauties down.
The current Mazda6 Sedan models include the:
