The sun glitters and shines agreeably off the vehicle’s chrome exterior trim and metallic paint. Like a stunning woman’s body, the new C-class has plenty of gorgeous curves that make this roomy mid-sized saloon, or estate, very athletic. The body language of the new model is more imposing than the earlier one, with broader shoulders and a stylised body crease along the low profile bodyline. The Mercedes Benz C280 looks particularly striking with its optional AMG body kit and 18-inch alloys.

Open the door and slip inside an interior that is voluptuous and exquisitely put together. From the beautiful leather seats to the well organised and ergonomically sound dash, the new C280 will be a joy to own and a delight to drive. Make no mistaking; the Mercedes Benz C280 is a class leader that has a spacious interior that is welcoming and instantly relaxing.

Slip the Mercedes Benz C280’s silky smooth seven-speed transmission into gear and ,on the road, the car feels supremely well planted. The steering is weighty and accurate, and the standard ‘Agility Control’ selective damping suspension offers an excellent combination of ride control and handling. Adaptive valving in each shock absorber ensures that a supple ride over corrugations is the norm in the Mercedes Benz C280, but when more dynamic handling is required, the shocks automatically alter to suit the driver’s demanding driving style. The result is brilliant on road characteristics. Performance is brisk and refined, as the C280 features a cracking 3.0 litre V6 engine with copious levels of punchy acceleration and smooth high speed touring.

As you would expect, All C-classes come with ESP, along with driver’s knee, front, side and curtain airbags as standard. Rear side airbags are an optional extra worth considering. The intelligent Mercedes ‘Pre-Safe’ system prepares the vehicle for an accident, by priming the seatbelts, repositioning the front seats (if electric seats with memory) and closing the windows and locking the fuel, should the Mercedes Benz C280 detect a dangerous situation.

Mercedes are onto a winner here. This is certainly a car that I wouldn’t mind parked inside my garage. The C280 is definitely one of the best looking, best driving mid-sized family vehicles around.
