Sedan, Estate, Coupe and Convertible. The Mercedes Benz E-Class is arguably the best medium-to-large car on the planet.
A striking new headlight design gives the Mercedes Benz E-Class a huge visual impact. A fresh interior makeover provides all four body shapes with pure leather comfort with heated seats, premium audio, thermal climate control, satellite navigation, and Bluetooth technology.
Mercedes BlueEFFICIENCY engines add start/stop technology, greater efficiency and a greener image to what is a high-end performance/luxury legend.
Safety is at the forefront of the eye-catching new Mercedes Benz E-Class. Sleek lines on the outside provide a stunning visual prelude to all the amazing features under the skin that make the Mercedes Benz E-class the tremendous car it really is. I came across and interesting statement on-line as I was preparing this car’s review: ‘Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates’. Brimming with safety features, the new Mercedes Benz E-Class is ready to pamper you… but not quite like that.
Yes, you’ll find all E-Class cars are equipped with the very best ABS system – and then some. With around a dozen new or enhanced safety assistance systems, Mercedes Benz engineers are rewriting the books. Focussing on avoiding traffic accidents and reducing the severity of accidents is key to the E-Class design. Radar and camera technology which looks far ahead and monitors the vehicle’s surroundings can detect, for example, an imminent rear-end collision, they first warn the driver and can then assist by actuating the brakes. Here’s another gizmo that aids the E-Class safety: The car’s Adaptive High-Beam Assist function. This system is included with the LED light package and always provides the best possible illumination of the road surface in every situation. With oncoming traffic or vehicles travelling in front, High-Beam Assist automatically adjusts the headlamps to the dipped-beam setting. In the dipped-beam setting the headlamp range is adjusted so as not to dazzle other road users. The headlamp range can be expanded to up to 300 metres. Manually switching between low beam and high beam is no longer necessary. Who has trouble remembering to dip their lights? My hand would have to go up.
Seductive design captures the attention of any Mercedes Benz E-Class on-looker. Whether it be the low slung sedan, sweeping estate lines, sporty coupe or elegant cabriolet detailing, all of the Mercedes Benz E-Class vehicles have the X-factor that make them something more than a little bit special.
Interior finish is impeccable inside any of the Mercedes Benz E Class versions. Vying for the best cabin on the globe, the Mercedes-Benz E Class is near perfection. Sensual curves and seductive lines carry through the elegant leather interior. Rich colours and glitzy detailing provide an air of grace throughout the cabin’s sculptured design.
Standard equipment for every Mercedes Benz E-Class includes: five head restraints, an adaptive brake system with a HOLD function and hill start assist, Aero windscreen wipers with a one-touch wiper function and rain sensor, ABS, belt tensioners with two-stage belt force limiters for driver and front passenger, a Bi-Xenon light package, cruise control, a 1/3:2/3 split folding rear seat, an electronic immobiliser which includes an ‘ELCODE’ locking system with infrared remote control, ESP, acceleration skid control, front airbags with multi-stage deployment, side-bags for driver and front passenger, window-bags for all seats, a knee-bag for the driver, Headlight Assist, a parking guidance system, powered windows, and THERMOTRONIC multi-zone luxury automatic climate control.
The E 63 AMG boasts the most powerful engine. It is a thoroughbred sports engine which accelerates the E-Class Sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. If you don’t require that ‘ticket territory’ performance, then there are a number of powerful and efficient engines that work beautifully with taut comfortable handling.
The E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has a 2.0-litre diesel engine developing a broad 400 Nm of torque. The E250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY has the up-rated 2.0-litre diesel motor and thumps out a peak power of 150 kW. The E250 GCI BlueEFFICIENCY boasts a sweet running 1.8-litre, petrol engine with a turbo attached. The E350 has V6 petrol power. The E350 CDI has a stunning turbo-diesel power plant offering a massively useful 540 Nm of torque – which when linked to a seven-speed automatic gearbox makes very swift travel. There is the E500 model that rips out the 0-100 km/h dash in just 5.2 seconds. And, of course, the E63 AMG mentioned earlier.
For a classy mid-sized motorcar, that is totally complete, try out the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class…it’s simply the best.
