Looking at buying the new Mercedes Benz Viano? A few changes are worth noting.
A fresh design has given the Viano even better detailing on the big van’s exterior. Capable of seating eight people in one of the roomiest environments, the Mercedes Benz Viano is built for the purpose of caring for the traveller. Both the front seats are electrically adjusted, and can be heated, as well. The Viano can be set up for three-seater benches in the second and third rows or as a six-seater configuration where four individual ‘Captain’s Chair’ style seats in the second and third rows really lay on the comfort levels. You can make it a seven-seater as well. Smart modern styling on the inside provides a spacious and elegant cabin space.
A brand new turbo-diesel engine gives class leading power, economy and refinement.
Vans are a necessity these days. The useful load capacity and space make them ideal workhorses for couriers and tradespeople. Vans are also ideal vehicles for offering practical, roomy transport for the large family. A stylish alternative for a potential van buyer is the newly updated Mercedes Benz Viano.
Designed to be not only a work horse but also an all around versatile vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Viano may just be the vehicle for you.
Just the one engine lies in the Viano’s engine bay. An exceptionally strong engine, the power that is generated from the turbo-diesel’s modern design copes with the heaviest loads, effortlessly. A V6, and boasting 165 kW is impressive enough. Add to this a maximum torque figure of 440 Nm in the range between 1600 and 2400 rpm and it shows you just how easily this van gets along.
Quick response allows the Viano to cover a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 9.1 seconds, and the smooth response of the five-speed automatic transmission is unfazed. If you have long distant travel in mind, the Mercedes Benz Viano will coast along beautifully at any speed limit that Australia has. In the right spot, the Viano can exceed 200 km/h. Quiet and solidly planted on the road, long journeys can be completed in a relaxed and safe manner. With a Cd of 0.32, the aerodynamics of the big van is impressive. And the resulting fuel efficiency is equally impressive at an average of 8.6 litres/100 km.
The Mercedes Benz Viano feels safe on the road, and with internally ventilated disc brakes all round the 225/55 tyres can sink their teeth into the tarmac to slow the Viano down from high speeds. Of course, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) including the anti-lock braking system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR), the Brake Assist system (BAS) and EBD all work together to make an impressive active safety system net. And with the big 225/55 R17 tyres, the Viano bites the bitumen nicely and handles surprisingly well for such a large vehicle. Power is applied to the rear wheels via a silky smooth 5-speed automatic, so steering is light, accurate and in control.
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz Viano is nothing short of exceptional, with the capacity to seat six or more comfortably in either bucket or bench seating. The big Mercedes Benz Viano van was designed for long trips, and its passengers’ total comfort and safety were at the forefront of the designers’ minds. There is a multifunctional steering wheel that allows you to control a host of features, such as: the audio system, the journey data system, and even controlling onboard phone calls. The Viano has a semi-automatic climate control system with pollen and dust filters, and there is even a panorama glass sunroof for the rear. There is also a fully automatic climate control with a solar sensor and tunnel switch (to close everything when entering tunnels). The Viano also offers the COMAND and data system that controls not only the audio but navigational options.
Safety is paramount in the Viano. With features like Parktronic, you can manoeuvre and park into tight spots in complete confidence. As with all new Mercedes-Benz vehicles, there are airbags front and rear, and there are superb dynamic safety features – as mentioned above.
Standard equipment includes five spoke alloys, seven seats: driver and front passenger seats, two individual ‘Captain’s Chair’ style seats in the second row, and a three seater bench in the third row. There is adaptive brake lights, six airbags, bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED, the Mercedes Benz COMAND APS (Cockpit Management and Data System), cruise control with a SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter, active safety features mentioned earlier, a front and rear tilt/slide glass electric sunroof, Headlamp Assist (automatic headlamp activation), a nice chunky leather steering wheel and gearshift lever, a multifunction steering wheel, a PARKTRONIC ultrasonic parking system which is great for any tight parking space, a superior sound system with an integrated digital signal processor, eight high quality speakers, an amplifier and subwoofer with a base reflex box, and an awesome THERMOTRONIC luxury climate control system with front and rear air conditioning units. Many other exciting features can be added, if you want them. Things like a DVD entertainment system, and even more luxurious seats and trim options are available.
So, if a versatile, luxury passenger van is what catches your eye, take the leading-edge Mercedes-Benz Viano out for a drive – and become impressed. A warning though: you may not want to check out many other vans on the list, after seeing and experiencing this one!
