The epitome of sportiness and luxury can be found inside a Roadster.  They are a very special breed, and numerous marques lay claim to top spot.  Jaguar has their fabulous new F-Type, Porsche their 911 Targa and 918 Spyder, Audi provide a number of open top beauties – by that I mean cabriolets, and BMW have their intense M6 Convertible.  It’s the new Mercedes Benz SL-Class Roadster I’m reckoning as possibly the best Roadster on the planet, with its lovely blend of luxury and performance.  Jaguar’s new F-Type is an equivalent and fabulous alternative, so I guess it comes down to preference.

Seated inside the new Mercedes Benz SL-Class Roadster, you are very well protected from wind turbulence, and with an awesome view of the sky and a beautiful long bonnet to look over, you’re in a world of motoring bliss.  Electronic opening and shutting of the hard-top roof is as simple as pushing a button.  So when the weather looks to be closing in, in moments the roof fits snuggly over your head and cocoons you in a sumptuous, warm luxury interior.  Speeding down the open roads at the legal limit is totally effortless and quiet.  So much power is in reserve at any speed that even the SL 350 Roadster can run the 0-100 km/h dash in under six seconds.  Ride stability and comfort is first-rate, and the agility of the RWD Roadster is up there with the new Jaguar F-Type and Porsche models.  It’s all about the drive and the feeling, and the SL-Class Roadster has it all.  You don’t buy one of these to carry the family around in, because you can’t.  It’s a 2-seater only.  However the comfort and room in the two available seats is superb.

Four engines are available for powering the gorgeous new SL-Roadster; the most powerful being the SL 65 AMG, boasting 463 kW and 1000 Nm!  Describing the performance of the SL 65 AMG as “Mammoth” would be an understatement.  Anyhow, all models are quick, and probably the best of the SL-Class Roadsters is probably the least powered of them all.  Just where are you going to be able to use 1000 Nm?

Depending on the equipment chosen to kit out your new SL-Class Roadster, this model is between 125 and 140 kilograms lighter than its predecessor.  Also, the latest Mercedes Benz SL-Class Roadster is made almost entirely from aluminium.  The lighter rear axle is complemented by the use of tube-in-tube structural elements as well as light-gauge hollow sections.  These weight saving methods allow the SL 350 to weigh in at a little over 1600 kg.  Another improvement over the outgoing model is that the level of torsional strength is some 20 percent greater.  The extensive use of aluminium now makes the SL-Class Roadster lighter and sportier, more economical and genuinely safer.

Kitted with incredible luxury features, sitting inside the SL-Class Roadster is charming.  Multi-layered seats are electronic in their adjustment, heated and massage capable.  The THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system allows the driver and passenger to adapt the climate temperature for their individual space.  All other high-end features are available.
