Small SUVs and electric cars are getting plenty of time in the spotlight. Lovers of SUVs are a growing phenomenon, so why not get really chic and make your next new car an electric SUV. MG can offer you their latest ZS SUV in electric form. The 2020 MG ZS EV is now available to buy in Australia and it’s a really good package with lots to like about it.
First of all: Price. MG’s latest new hit, the ZS EV, will be priced lower than Hyundai rivals. Lower in this case doesn’t dodge quality products, and it does not mean flimsy and cheap. The price offered on the MG ZS EV will undercut, say, a new Hyundai Kona Elite EV. For around $47k, you could have yourself a stylish MG ZS EV with premium interior features and excellent cabin comfort. The Hyundai equivalent costs over $10k more. New MG cars have impressed with their likable interior comfort, technology, cabin features, driving dynamics and classy styling. Offering two variants, the MG ZS EV is set to impress many buyers on the lookout for the latest EV technology and driving style.
The new MG ZS EV is designed for those who want all the advantages of an electric car without compromising on practicality or style. With premium design features, spacious dimensions and capacity, the fully-electric MG ZS EV is not your typical compact SUV. Climb inside one of these, and you’ll enjoy a cabin fitted out with squidgy plastics, high-end detailing, smart graphics and leather, weighted knobs and switchgear, as well as a solid fit-and-finish. There are plenty of touchscreen features that include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and smartphone mirroring as standard. A DAB radio and satellite navigation are also nice features present on your touchscreen set-up. You can converse with people while on the move, thanks to your Bluetooth, hands-free communications system.
Sitting in the ZS EV driver’s seat you’ll be seated higher up than you would in a similar-in-length hatchback. This bodes well for a commanding view of the road ahead of you. The seat is very comfortable, and adjustments can be made in the reach of the steering wheel, while the seat has multi-adjustment including your seat height. For those who will be sitting in the rear seats: well they will have loads of leg and head space. The ZS really shines as a decently roomy medium SUV that can accommodate six footers in the back with ease. There will be a little more head room in the base model that doesn’t come with a panoramic sunroof. The top of the range Exclusive MG ZS EV comes with a beautiful glass roof, but takes a bite out of rear seat head room.
With one of the best-in-class rear seat space the flat rear floor and wide-body dimensions give the ZS EV more than average carrying-capacity all your essentials. Boot space with rear seats up is 359-litres, while a full fold down of the split-folding rear seats has a cargo capacity that can top out at 1166-litres.
Automatic transmission comes as standard on the MG ZS EV. The central rotary gear selector is cool, defecting away from the more traditional gearstick. The MG ZS auto offers premium refinement in all driving conditions. Everyday driving, and not so everyday driving, is made simple with the new ZS EV offering three driving modes. From urban commutes to country road trips, you can choose between Eco, Normal and Sport modes which will allow the car to fully adapt to your driving needs. That said, the 2020 MG ZS EV has been designed for those who regularly commute around the city. It doesn’t boast the same big battery power found in some of the other new EVs, however it is powered by a 44.5kWh, water-cooled, lithium-ion battery, delivering 353 Nm of instant torque and packs 105 kW of power. The driving range of up to 262 kilometres from a single charge will see you right for most journeys. You’ll have real electric acceleration (0-100 km/h in less than 9 seconds) and no emission concerns.
Charging the new MG ZS EV could not be simpler thanks to its CCS and Type 2 ports. These ports are mounted within the front grille for easy access from either side of the car. On the go, the MG ZS EV SUV can be rapid charged to 80% in approximately 40 minutes, but you’ll use a 50 kW DC fast charger to do so. Charging can also be done overnight at home on a 7 kW domestic charger, where a full charge can take approximately 7 hours. So if you use the ZS EV primarily as a city commuter it couldn’t be easier: head to work in the morning, finish and drive home at the end of your shift, and then connect for a top up overnight.
Your new MG ZS EV comes with a vehicle warranty of 7 years or 160,000kms (whichever occurs first from the date of first registration of vehicle), and you also get an electric system warranty of seven years – pretty impressive!
MG Pilot safety has the ZS EV boasting a suite of driver assistance technology to lend a helping hand as required. Active Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Intelligent High Beam Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist are all standard on the new MG ZS EV.
The ride quality is decent, and with the added battery weight it helps settle the car when riding over road undulations. The MG ZS EV is easy to drive, the electric steering light in town and then weighted on the open road.
You have yourself arguably the nicest Electric SUV on the market here. The vehicle delivers on attractive looks, space and driving comfort, and there are beautifully soft materials and stitched leather effects for that extra luxury. The attention to detail of the 2020 MG ZS EV interior offers ultimate comfort and style, adding luxury to your zero-emission driving experience.
