Nissan GT-R NISMO

Nissan GT-R NISMO

More than sensational, the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO adds another 22 kW and 20 Nm to the already massively quick engine.  The hand-built Nissan GT-R NISMO 3.8-litre, twin turbo V6 puts out some hard hitting power and torque figures of 441 kW and 652 Nm.  The power output of Nissan’s motorsport engine peaks well above the BMW M5’s twin turbo 4.4-litre V8 (412 kW), though the Beemer has a little more torque – but that’s good enough to give Nissan fans a confident smile in the corner.  Add AWD and the Nissan GT-R NISMO is seriously quick.  Good for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of around 315km/h, few cars can match the Nissan GT-R NISMO for ultimate track speed.

In 2015, a Nissan GT-R NISMO ran a very hot lap at the Nurburgring race circuit managing a time of 7 min:08.68 sec, placing it at sixth spot overall – even above the Mercedes-AMG GT-R.  The perfect blend of power and chassis control is what the NISMO division of Nissan is all about, and they sure know how to get it right.

Main rivals for the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO supercar are the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and McLaren 675 LT.  Price, though more expensive than a BMW M5, is way less than these other two main rival cars – and it’s less than half the cost of the McLaren.

Nissan GT-R NISMO Interior

When you jump inside the Nissan GT-R NISMO supercar, the cockpit is purpose built for speed – as you would expect.  Perhaps, the cabin materials and quality are not quite up to the European rivals’ standards, however there is no mistaking that you are inside a cockpit that is special and one that has been designed for racing.  Alcantara leather and suede-like trim are used on the dashboard, steering wheel and race-style carbon-backed bucket seats.  The ride quality is pretty harsh; however the trade-off is absolutely sensational handling.  Mode settings are featured, however the softest setting is still pretty stiff.  R mode is, of course, Race!

There are loads of tricks in the Nissan GT-R NISMO armoury, and it’s not just found in the engine and AWD systems.  The finely crafted front bumper is made from hand-layered carbon-fibre.  And this is part of the complete carbon aero kit which has the side skirts and large rear wing also made of carbon fibre.  Nissan has even fitted a titanium exhaust system to the new GT-R NISMO range for a high strength-to-weight ratio and that matchless sound that only titanium exhaust systems emits at full throttle.

Engine bores a sprayed with a plasma spray for better fuel efficiency, reduced friction, lighter weight, enhanced cooling and greater power output.  A thermostatically controlled oil-cooling system ensures that the engine is kept cool and at optimum running temperature the moment the ignition has been started.  An asymmetrical independent intake and exhaust manifold system and an oil scavenger pump for maintaining oil flow to the turbos are other ways that keep this NISMO engine at the forefront of peak performance and efficiency.  The V6 twin-turbo is potent and always has an extra gallop whatever the engine revs might be.

An on-board computer displays many interesting details via the dash screen; information that includes brake pedal pressure, mechanical and driving information, steering angle, a recording function with playback and acceleration data.  All of this makes for some pretty cool reading regarding your journey or race.

2017 sees buyers able to get into one of the truly quickest vehicles on our roads.  Nissan GT-R cars are race bred and honed from the experience.  These Nissan cars boast a successful race history in Australia with race wins for the R32 GT-R at Bathurst in 1991 and 1992.  They were so successful that they were ousted from the competition for being just way too good!  Returning in the Bathurst 12-Hour race in 2015, the car won again.  And, in 2016 the R35 based race car placed second.  The new Nissan GT-R NISMO is a very special car indeed.
