The French seem to know how to get the best out of a body shape. It’s not just the gorgeous ladies; Peugeot, Citroen and Renault have all got some of the most striking lines, sexiest curves and sleekest aerodynamics. Looking over the new Peugeot 4008 exterior, and it seems that this is another great creation from Peugeot which sets this model up as one of the nicest looking SUVs on the road. I know it’s not all about looks, so let’s have a closer look at the Peugeot 4008 inside, under the bonnet, and in its ability to provide functionality and comfort.
Across the back seat there’s approximately 1500 mm of spread to plant three bottoms – that’s around 500 mm for each butt. Unless your backside is humongous, this is ample space for the average butt. The interior roof-lining is lofty in the rear, providing plenty of height for those who are tall in stature. There’s even a little more height (over 1000 mm) from the surface of the front seat to the roof-lining directly overhead. Luggage space in the rear is very good, particularly if you take into account that the luggage floor is 835 mm deep and that the Peugeot 4008 has the height of a station wagon inside. Split folding rear seats make for an explosion of space for any further cargo you may wish to carry with the rear seats folded.
On the comfort front, the Peugeot 4008 is a very special SUV to travel in. The elegant style of the 4008 interior trim, beautiful upholstery and premium materials have created a beautiful place for enjoying a long journey with friends and family. An arched centre console houses all the clever onboard features. Bluetooth and USB connection are available for connecting up to the Peugeot 4008’s superior six-speaker sound system. A hands free phone makes links with the outside world easy. Bluetooth and audio can be controlled from the steering wheel. Seating is firm and comfortable, while there are all the luxury features you would expect. Climate control air-conditioning, an air-conditioned glove box, plenty of storage compartments and two 12-volt plugs for running accessory features. A rear-view camera and cruise control make things relaxed and easy for the driver.
On the road you have a great feeling SUV. The Peugeot 4008 boasts tremendous handling and accurate control. On-Demand AWD means that for most of your travels you’ll be doing it thrifty in 2WD. Strike nasty weather or slippery road surfaces, and the Peugeot 4008 automatically slips into 4WD if a need for more traction is detected. Of course, you will have the times when you want a little more adventure that will take you off the beaten track. Those off-road tracks, sand dunes and muddy terrain can be tamed by turning the central console dial to 4WD Lock. This gives you 50:50 front-to-rear torque distribution permanent AWD. For those who are happy to keep all your travel to the tarmac, the Peugeot 4008 comes available with 2WD-only models.
Offered with a five-speed manual or six-speed CVT automatic gearbox, the Peugeot 4008 is both economical and easy to use. Power comes from a 2-litre petrol engine that has 110 kW and 197 Nm of torque available. Expect around 7.5 to 8.0 litres/100 km for average fuel consumption. For those who’ll be doing a lot of country roads, the Peugeot 4008 loves to eat up the miles in a polite, frugal manner.
It would be awful to dent this superb looking machine, however if a serious collision does occur, there are plenty of top safety features that are ready to protect all occupants. Seven airbags, ESP, LSD daytime running lights, Xenon headlights and fog lights all come as standard items.
Two models are available. Opt for the Peugeot 4008 Active, and airbags Bluetooth and USB connectivity, Cruise control, Electronic parking assistance (rear), an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), LED daytime running lights, a rear view camera are already onboard the moment you leave the showroom. Grab yourself a Peugeot 4008 Allure, and 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically operated front seats, heated front seats, leather trim, LED daytime running lights, a rear view camera, xenon headlights with auto height adjustment and headlight washers are some of the things you can add to the list.
A great buy, the Peugeot 4008 is immensely rewarding to drive and is competitively priced too. Looking forward to a diesel option around the corner? We’ll see.
