Yep. What you see is one of those French beauties. No not Aurelie Claudel, a French model, but a lavish French two-door coupe, pulled along by a whisper-quiet diesel motor. Beautiful to look at, the low slung Peugeot 407 Coupe rates as one of the nicest designs on four wheels. The car has a wonderful road presence, and looks like a finely set jewel when cruising the city streets.
Climb inside the two-door Peugeot 407 Coupe, and you will sit low down in its hugely bolstered seats. The big Pug offers two well shaped rear seats too – where the room is very good. A big expansive dash before you has nice splashes of chrome against the dark grey/black trim. In the centre of the dash is the multi function screen. Sat Navigation is a standard item, and the big LED screen is clear and pleasantly sophisticated and modern. All the switch gear is ergonomically well designed and easy to use. The driver will enjoy premium comfort behind the wheel. Electrically adjustable seats help find that all important comfortable driving position, and the adjustable steering wheel can be set to the correct location for a relaxed journey. The steering wheel is leather bound and pleasantly chunky, and when combined with the Peugeot’s accurate and light steering, the drive is delightful. Cold outside? Then the Coupe’s climate control air conditioning quickly sets the cabin temperature – just right. Got your coffee at the gas station? No problems. Pop that in the cup holders. Like a bit of Tina Turner? Adjust the audio’s RD4 six-speaker premium radio/CD player via the boot mounted 6 CD autochanger and JBL premium sound system and you can locate the right levels of crystal clear sound via the remote audio controls on the steering column. Need to step on the gas? Don’t worry, you won’t miss that favourite sexy voice lead by Tina because the Peugeot 407 Coupe boasts speed related volume controls. There’s a number of buttons on the centre console that puts every gadget you could think of at your command.
And on the open road, how does she perform? This Coupe is a French tourer par excellence. You can coast around town at a miserly 36 mpg, and when you hit the open road a magnificent 47 mpg fuel efficiency is quite astounding for such a nice roomy cruiser. It’s always smooth and quiet, even when you decide to push it hard. The car responds with plenty of spirit, particularly as the engine under the hood boasts a 2.7 litre twin turbo diesel V6. A maximum power of 150 kW @ 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 440 Nm @ 1900 rpm is ready to pounce on any slower moving vehicles. Top speed is said to be a healthy 230 km/h. Long legged, and a capable runner, the Peugeot 407 Coupe does everything it should in a refined, comfortable and gentleman like manner.
I own a Peugeot diesel, and you can take it from me the low running costs are impressive. They are supremely comfortable, and are very well polished handlers. The new Peugeot 407 Coupe looks handsome and carries the Peugeot family nose well. It’s nicely proportioned. And if you are in the hunt for a very nice GT style motorcar, the 407 Coupe is well worth your time.
