Weekends away are a must for those who work forty to sixty plus hours a week. They are rewarding times for those who have put the effort in during the week. It’s time for you to let your hair down, check out the great get-away places across Australia and… get away. Oh, and before you do, you need to consider the best wheels for the job. To head down to the Great Barrier Reef (off Queensland’s coast), Ayers Rock or Sydney’s harbour bridge, you need the best station wagon for the task. As far as station wagons go they don’t come much more marvellous than the new Peugeot 407 Touring wagon.
Long, low slung, sleek and roomy, the Peugeot 407 Touring wagon turns plenty of heads. There is certainly no shortage of attention from people appreciating the 407 Touring’s elegant lines and stylish exterior features. The car looks awesome!
The ST sits on beautiful 17 inch alloys (18 inch for the SV), and the rubber offers the Peugeot 407 Touring plenty of grip and balanced handling that, while offering taut road holding, provides premium ride comfort for all the passengers inside. The Peugeot’s multilink suspension system is one of the world leading examples of how a motorcar should handle the road.
Two diesel variants are offered, and they really are at the top of their game. An unrivalled, complete performance and efficiency package are what these engines provide the owner/driver with. For many years, Peugeot have been designing and building reliable, strong and efficient diesel motors. Nowadays, they are class leaders in low emission diesel engine design. Power levels in the Peugeot 407 Touring are excellent. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel is a four cylinder that generates 100 kW @ 4000 rpm and a wonderfully creamy 320 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Its 0-100 km/h time is whisked from beginning to end in 11.2 seconds. Step up to the V6 2.7-litre twin turbo diesel engine and a climb in power output is evident. The 24 valve engine pumps out a healthy 150 kW @ 4000. Heavy loadsfor the family getaway can be pulled effortlessly along with the colossal 440 Nm of torque @ 1900 rpm. The V6 puts the 0-100 km/h away in just 8.8 seconds, and the roomy wagon can run on to 226 km/h where legal. Both Peugeot 407 Touring engines have met the stringent European standard for emissions. The Peugeot 407 Touring is a delight to put through its paces. And, particularly in V6 guise, the Touring wagon has plenty of power. Both models of the Peugeot 407 Touring wagon come with a silky six-speed automatic transmission, ventilated front discs, rear discs, ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Emergency Brake Assist.
Many miles of Australian motorway travel need not be strenuous. The Peugeot 407 Touring is wonderfully comfortable. Seating, front and rear, has plenty of leg room and shoulder room. In the ST, the seats are covered in exquisite cloth material. The cloth is an option for buyers of the SV model, so the sumptuous leather comes as standard in the SV. Gorgeous interior textures and workmanship from the French designers is first rate. Electrically operated front seats are standard features. The driver’s seat has a memory function, and, in the SV model, the seats are heated. Three rear head restraints that are height adjustable are standard items as well. A removable security cover above the boot, the front centre armrest with CD rack and coin holder, drinks holders, front and rear map reading lights, driver and passenger sunvisors with illuminated vanity mirrors, a leather trimmed steering wheel, 4 door sill/ground illumination, a rear 12V accessory power point, dual zone climate control air conditioning, an air conditioned glove box, a pollen filter and an odour reducing charcoal filter makes travelling in the Peugeot 407 Touring a pleasure.
