Now, for the moment you’ve been waiting for… Peugeot has got some real power behind one of the most striking looking cars on the road. The new Peugeot RCZ R is very fast, stylish and thrilling to drive. You won’t need to rely on a big engine for the power, because Peugeot has a performance tuned 1.6-litre Turbo engine that makes this the sexiest pocket rocket for the money.
The standard Peugeot RCZ already has the awe inspiring looks, however with the addition of the more powerful engine; a few extra signature features make the RCZ R stand a little further out from the crowd. The all-new Peugeot RCZ R features many Peugeot R sporty detailing and accents. These include 19-inch matt black/sparkling two-tone alloy wheels, eye-catching large red calipers on the front wheels, an R monogram on the front and rear ends of the car, an R monogram on the aluminium door sills, and also an R badge fixed to the centre console. If you look closely at the Peugeot RCZ and RCZ R side-by-side, you’ll also note a few other more subtle additions – and these additions are as a result of the RCZ R having the most powerful engine that Peugeot have placed in a production line road car, ever. The RCZ R has wider front tracks, a lower ride height and boosted suspension settings to help it grip the road. A fixed rear spoiler looks awesome and also provides extra stability at high speeds. All-in-all, the exterior beauty of the Peugeot RCZ R is a visual work of art.
Top-end agility and stop/go speed, the new Peugeot RCZ R sets new standards in the area of handling. Certainly, with the RCZ R’s 1.6 THP turbocharged petrol engine the chassis has to cope with the rigours that go with the powerful engine, lightweight agility and tenacious braking that drivers will want to experience. Ride quality is firm, and it needs to be. Steering accuracy is beautifully precise and neutral so that the car responds instantly to any change of direction. An instant rush of building speed is another feature of the punchy 199 kW engine. Peugeot claim that the RCZ R can eclipse the 0-100 km/h dash in just 5.9 seconds. If top speed matters, then the low profile RCZ R can also top the magical 250 km/h – on the right piece if tarmac. For helping the driver remain safe and legal, the Peugeot RCZ R comes equipped with a very nifty speed-limited cruise control system.
To ensure that all the performance-fun remains economical, the 1.6 THP turbocharged petrol engine has ingenious design mechanisms that monitor the amount of fuel required precisely. No wastage of fuel and the promise of low emissions – what more could you want in a car as racy as this? Peugeot claim that you can expect around 6.3 litres/100 km on an average every day combined drive through the city and out on the open road. Not bad, eh? Also, the CO2 emissions of just 145g/km is a class leading level, a sure way of helping preserve the environment.
When you enter the Peugeot RCZ R cockpit, you slip down and into the racing sports bucket seats. The RCZ R is as close to a racing cockpit as you’ll ever get for the price. The small steering wheel, short gear stick and supportive racing seats look the goods. You find yourself inside a very sexy cockpit that is modern, sophisticated and full of French flair. The RCZ R’s refined grace is reflected in the bucket seats’ stylish leather / alcantara accented upholstery. Elegant red stitching has been used for stitching the upholstery together, and while we are on the colour red, a distinct aluminium handle with red trim is very attractive. Automatic dual-zone air conditioning, electric windows, an acoustic windscreen, Peugeot’s Connect Navigation which includes premium Audio and CD, and satellite navigation system are features that make RCZ R sport features mingle with luxury. You can connect to favourite music tracks via Peugeot’s Connect USB Box, and the Bluetooth system keeps you in touch with the outside world.
Safety systems are current and sophisticated on-board the new Peugeot RCZ R. Active safety systems include: ESP with its traction control system, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, ABS and Emergency Brake Assist. All of these are the first line of defence. Passive safety features include items like a full array of front SRS airbags, isofix points in the rear bench seat for kiddies seats and tyre pressure sensors.
