The Polestar 2 looks nice and sporty on the outside and is beautifully comfortable on the inside. It’s an EV packed with technology and offers its occupants superb levels of safety. Let’s take a look at the Polestar 2.
Onlookers taking a good look around the brand new Polestar 2 will appreciate loads of road presence and a nice balance in the Polestar 2’s symmetry which combines both strength and beauty in a completely modern package. It’s flowing shape looks elegant and the fastback/hatchback design exudes speed and sophistication. Because Volvo has had a hand in the design of recent Polestar cars, there is still some of the sweet features like the Thor hammer headlights and that strong rounded face which looks ever so like current Volvos – that’s a good thing. Geely has Polestar now and uses it as their luxury line of EVs, selling alongside Volvos.
Around the side of the Polestar 2 you get a great view of the roofline that swoops away at the rear. The high windowsills give the car added muscle and visual impact, matched by the beautiful alloys that fill the wheel arches out incredibly well. 19-inch alloys are the standard size, offering a decent rubber pad connecting with the road for excellent levels of grip and stopping power. You can upgrade the alloys to the larger 20-inch rims that look very striking indeed with their four keyhole and four triangle pattern, which you can’t help but notice when you’re a bystander looking on. Bigger brake callipers can be had as part of the sports upgrade.
Moving around to the rear of the car and you find a sizeable crease line that starts below the rear window and sweeps around the rear haunches and into the classy back taillight design. The boot lid has a neat tuck at the spoiler, and, overall, the Polestar 2 looks superb with its smart, clean exterior design.
Inside the Polestar 2 you’ll be wowed with the soft, premium materials used throughout the cabin. The simple dash design looks brilliant and fits so snugly into the overall design and styling. The seats are very comfortable, and with all the superior adjustment in the steering wheel and driver’s seats you can get comfortable in no time at all. Of course, the memory function can set you back to your individual set-up if someone else has been out for a drive.
Ride quality is nice and supple, and the Polestar 2 can be had in AWD packing plenty of punch for any type of driving you’ll want to do. Expect a 0-100 km/h dash to take around 5 seconds or a smidgeon less. 360 degree cameras make the parking manoeuvres easier than you might think. Out on the motorway, the car is relaxing and quiet to drive. Active radar is working for you while driving along in cruise control mode. Acceleration for passing is quick, and there is loads of grip for fast flat cornering. There is also the base model single electric motor Polestar 2 which is FWD, this one scampering through the 0-100 km/h in a little over 7 seconds.
Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor models come with FWD and pack 170 kW of power. Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor models are also FWD but can drive further on a charge than the standard range version. The Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor AWD model has 300 kW and over 600 Nm of torque. Well over 300 km is achievable in the real world for the base model on a regular basis, the long range model with FWD being the Polestar that will get you the furthest. The Long Range Dual motor AWD variant has the potential to be quite economical but, as with any car, the more you enjoy full throttle and high speeds, the range for driving quickly drops away.
Smack bang in the middle of the dash is a portrait infotainment screen which keeps you connected with the outside world, navigation, safety, and entertainment systems. The screen is big and clear, made by Android, and works very well. Apple connections aren’t available yet. The Polestar 2’s digital driver’s display is again superb and premium quality.
More great features on-board the 2022 Polestar 2 EV is the wireless charging and connection for your phone, LED headlights, the glass roof, a Harmon/Kardon audio system with epic 13-speaker sound, powered and heated front seats, handy storage compartments, bottle holders, a rear seat armrest and cup holders, isofix points across the rear seats and at the front passenger seat, and all the desirable premium safety features.
Delving into the practicality of a new Polestar 2 EV further, and we find that the rear seat passengers have decent legroom, while the padding across the back seats is very nice and supple, comfortable for long periods on the road. Rear seat passengers also get access to USB points. I like the fact that you can open the boot in all of the conventional ways as well as with the non-contact sweep of your foot below the rear bumper. 405 litres of space is available behind the back seats to put your gear, and of course the rear seats can fold flat to fit more luggage inside. Hooks, tie down points, underfloor storage, cargo nets, and 12V sockets all make the boot space a practical thing. Being of a hatchback shape, the loading gap is large. Around 35 litres of luggage space is available under the bonnet, a great space to store the electric charger and leads. You can also tow up to 1500 kg with the new Polestar 2.
All Polestar 2 models boast a 5-star safety rating, and any of the Polestar 2 models can be had in any of the following colours: Space Black, Midnight Blue, Jupiter Yellow, Thunder Grey, Magnesium Silver, or Snow White. There are also many optional extras you can add to your Polestar 2 to get exactly the look and the wow factor you want.
