2018 Porsche Cayenne SUV

Porsche have updated the popular Cayenne SUV models.  2018 sees a more streamlined exterior with all the Porsche characteristics we love shining through.  Strongly emphasised front wings; the long, downward sloping bonnet with its power dome, and the characteristic three-piece air intakes – which are even larger and more dominant – create an SUV shape that is both aerodynamic and visually striking.  A new front apron, LED main headlights, door styling and 22-inch alloys give a real sense of performance and add to the new sporty impression.

Probably the most noticeable design change is found at the rear of the 2018 Porsche Cayenne.  The rear has been completely redesigned to incorporate a stylish rear light strip that extends across the entire back end which gives the SUV a very polished quality.  The taillights have brand new LED technology and replicate the design concept of the headlights at the front.  But, overall, the 2018 Porsche Cayenne SUV is wider, making it even more muscular than ever – adding a bigger road presence with its likable athletic and dynamic styling.

Head inside the new Cayenne, and the cockpit is very much built around the driver.  Bolstered sport leather seats provide great comfort and support for long journeys.  So, the centre console with Direct Touch Control has a glass finish.  Above the centre console is the  Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system that boasts a 12-inch touchscreen display with very clear graphics. Behind the multifunction Sports steering wheel is the new instrument cluster with its nice appearance, and to the outer sides of the analogue dials are the two high-resolution display screens that visualise virtual instruments, maps, and other information as required and selected by the driver.  Porsche have done a nice job of the cabin’s fit-and-finish and the materials are of excellent quality.

One of the cool new features that the 2018 Porsche Cayenne has is the various coloured ambient lighting modes throughout the interior.  The selection of nice accented interior lighting really delivers a modern and enriching Cayenne experience, and you can choose from a variety of colour schemes for any mood and even change the light intensity to suit your preference or occupant tastes.

Seating is multi-adjustable, giving the 2018 Porsche Cayenne an impressive range of options for carrying luggage and passengers.  A Cayenne SUV isn’t just about exciting performance; it also impresses with its strengths in spaciousness, versatility and comfort.  There are a selection of interior materials, trims and colours to choose from.  The rear seats, like the front seats, are designed to be particularly comfortable and supportive.  2018 models offer more flexibility in that the rear seats can be folded down in the ratio 40 : 20 : 40.  They also offer 160 mm of fore/aft adjustment and boast 10 adjustment positions for the backrest angle (to 29 degrees).  Depending on the model, the luggage compartment has a resulting capacity of between 745 litres and a maximum of 1710 litres.  This is excellent cargo carrying space for the family.

Electric windows and zoned air-conditioning is standard, while satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and the Porsche Connect app increase the appeal of any Cayenne model.  Thanks to Apple CarPlay, Porsche Connect enables you to use the apps of your iPhone like ‘Telephone’, ‘Music’ or ‘News’ via PCM or with Siri -Apple’s voice recognition interface.  All Cayenne models are tech savvy and right up-to-date.

The 2018 upgraded standard specification for the Cayenne Turbo includes: LED main headlights including the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), adaptive air suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA), an adaptive roof spoiler, Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (PSCB), 21-inch Cayenne Turbo wheels in dark titanium, highly polished including wheel arch extensions in exterior colour, wheel centres with a full-colour Porsche crest, a premium leather interior, adaptive sports seats including a memory package (18-way, electric), integrated headrests with an embossed ‘turbo’ logo, interior cross-brushed aluminium trim strips, and a big BOSE® surround sound audio system.

Specification ugrades for the new Cayenne E-Hybrid include: a 100 kW electric motor, a sport chrono Package, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), ‘e-hybrid’ model designation (on left and right wings and on the tailgate), brake callipers with an acid green finish, charging equipment and an instrument cluster with a power meter.

2018 Porsche Cayenne models get more power (250 kW) and torque (450 Nm) via the 3.0-litre twin-scroll turbocharger engine.  Maximum torque is found between 1340-and-5300 rpm.

2018 Porsche Cayenne S models get the newly developed 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine which produces more power (324 kW) and boasts 550 Nm of torque between 1800-and-5500 rpm, and is markedly more powerful and fuel efficient than the larger capacity engine it replaces.

2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo models get the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that boasts 404 kW.  770 Nm of torque is available between 1960-and-4500 rpm.  This model can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

2018 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid models get the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine rated at 250 kW.  450 Nm of torque is available between 1340-and-5300 rpm.  The electric motor with 100 kW gives additional thrust.  The total electric and petrol power is 340 kW with a maximum system torque of 700 Nm impresses.

All variants use the superior 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox, and with AWD all models happily sprint through the curves faster than most people dare to drive.  It can be said that the new Cayenne is a true sports SUV with plenty of power and luxury to boot.
