Out-and-out performance has been in the Porsche genes since its conception. Time-and-time again the ingenious design and superb engineering has seen the Porsche 911 cross the line first. Having such superior handling, the new Porsche 911 Carrera has a complete package that brings miles of smiles for any driving enthusiast. Though the power output is not as big as, say, an M3 or HSV, everything works to send this amazing sports car from point A to point B extremely fast.
There is a new level of refinement about the latest Porsche 911 Carrera interior. More sumptuous and elegant than ever, the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera Cabriolet both provide exquisite leather interiors, awesome, supportive seats and plenty of technology – with options if you want even more. Slipping into the low down cockpit of a Porsche 911 Carrera is a thrill. Everything about the driving position, controls and dials make the statement that this is one very quick car. Plenty of leather makes you feel even more exotic. Then there’s the prancing horse on the steering wheel, materials such as carbon, aluminium or high-quality wood, and great sports car ergonomics, style and sound to help you feel even more special.
Keeping with tradition, the new Porsche 911 Carrera has the same gorgeous looks of all 911s gone before, only more streamlined and sexy. In fact, now the 911 boasts a longer wheelbase to improve the cars already class leading high speed stability and cornering agility. The roofline is lower, while the wider tracking at the front aids control. Getting the chance to find out what a 0-100 km/h time of 4.8 seconds from a standstill feels like is almost out of this world. But when the engine’s power continues to build and push the Carrera passed 200 km/h with such ease is what exciting drives are all about. Race tracks were made for cars like this.
A great way to catch some attention is to pull up to the business meeting in a new Porsche 911 Carrera. And if you don’t mind the sun on your skin and the wind in your hair, then the Cabriolet is a great hit amongst work colleagues. Porsche’s Communication Management System (PCM) is standard for all 911 models, and the system is your control centre for audio, navigation and communication functions. Burmwester or BOSE audio packages will rock your socks off, while electronic front seats slide and shift to find you just the right seating position.
Porsches aren’t all about high velocity travel. New Porsche cars come with the latest safety technology, and the 911 Carrera is no exemption to this phenomenon. Plenty of advanced passive and active safety systems are either monitoring your progress or will be at the ready should a nasty situation arise. Take for instance the new cruise control function Porsche uses on all Carrera models. This unit regulates your speed according to the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front. A radar sensor monitors the road ahead up to a distance of 200 m. If you have set a cruising speed but have begun to gain on the vehicle in front because it is driving more slowly, this is detected by the radar sensor, and the car adjusts your speed to keep a safe distance. Of course, you can override the system and hoof past the slower traffic to then settle down to your programmed cruising speed. If the other vehicle decelerates further, adaptive cruise control will continue to reduce your cruising speed – even down to a standstill.
One of my all-time favourites, both the Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera Cabriolet are legendary. Enjoy!
