Cayman GTS

You only need to look at the car’s sleek silhouette to see that the new Porsche Cayman GTS is all about pure driving pleasure in a high speed compilation of thrilling drives.  No excess weight, no hint of unnecessary overhang forward of the front wheels and behind the rear wheels, and massive scoops and spoilers to suggest that the Cayman GTS is as much at home dancing on the race track as it is cruising on the road.  Porsche’s new Cayman GTS is wonderfully gorgeous.  Balanced and aerodynamic, every angle reveals the Cayman GTS as very racy and superbly stylish.

If ever there would be a car that holds on the one hand pure driving pleasure, and on the other classy luxury, the new Cayman GTS would be one of the cars for winning contention.  And it all begins with the Cayman defined front-end with beautiful contouring and massive air intakes.  Of course, there’s the potent Porsche engine and chassis engineering, but nowadays any car built like a brick never graces the podium, so Porsche, as always, works with a form that’s built around aerodynamics and shape.  Porsche Cayman defines speed, and the GTS lines disclose exact edges that run backwards from the bonnet along the roof and all the way to the rear.  The way the new Porsche Cayman GTS slips through the air is seriously cool!  Front and rear light design captures a fresh approach, and the Cayman GTS has striking new smoked daytime running lights and position lights built on LED technology.  The LED taillights have the same smoked appearance set into the lens covers.  Bi‑Xenon headlights, including the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), are fitted as standard.  Shod with attractive 20-inch Carrera S wheels and their 10-spoke design, it’s the new Porsche Cayman GTS that you want to be driving.  This new Cayman model has had new treatment acted upon the rear apron, and it looks meaner and musclier than ever.  A set of black tailpipes complete the Cayman GTS picture, and at the point of start-up the Porsche engine note is assertive and addictive.

There are two ways of accessing the power of the 250 kW GTS engine.  A PDK or manual transmission provide the link between the keen engine power and the rubber on the road – the PDK version taking a slight smidgeon off the manual 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds.  Both versions can power on to a top speed of over 280 km/h, speeds that are best reserved for the race track!  Incredibly, the new Porsche Cayman is quite an efficient sports car, with a combined fuel cycle of around 9 litres/100km.  If you’re concerned about the amount of CO2 emitted, then the level of around 200 g/km of CO2 for either version is excellent for a car of this type and pedigree.

Slip down and into the Porsche Cayman GTS cabin, and you’ve found your happy place.  A Cayman GTS logo graces the door sill guards, stating that this is a very special edition of the new Cayman series.  Beautifully attractive suede leather and accented stitching on the sport seats and interior surfaces has been crafted impeccably, instantly making the quality statement very clear and concise.  In union with the standard black leather interior, Alcantara graces the lower section of the dashboard, the doors, the steering wheel, the lid of the centre console storage compartment and the gear lever/selector.  Prominent seat side bolsters and sporty firm padding provide superior lateral support and comfort over any distance.  Another nice touch is the headrests are embroidered with the Porsche ‘GTS’ logo, and even the roof lining and A-pillars are lined with Alcantara making this one of the best ‘happy places’ you’ll find in any sports car.  Porsche have hit the right note.

Each Porsche Cayman GTS comes with the Sport Chrono Package as standard, featuring a digital and an analogue stopwatch for recording lap times.  You best be lapping the race track and not the traffic officers, though!  The Sport Chrono feature provides the ability to make the set-up for the engine chassis and gearbox even more race orientated and sporty.

To make a long journey even more refined and entertaining, Porsche have equipped the Cayman GTS with a PCM feature that is your control centre for audio, communication and navigation functions.  The high-resolution 7-inch touchscreen is your access point.  A CD/DVD drive is MP3-compatible, and there is an AUX interface and a USB port for connecting suitable external devices.  The AUX interface and USB port is located in the glove compartment.  Get fully kitted out with the premium BOSE Surround Sound System which produces a sensational listening experience.  The Porsche Cayman GTS is a class act, with high-end features like a reversing camera, dual roll-over protection and Climate air conditioning as standard items.  Safety is also at its best.

On the road, the car is a limpet.  Awesome pace and sharp handling produce smiles galore; then there is the acceleration and superior straight line speed.  You gotta drive Porsche!  There are numerous Porsche clubs throughout Australia that offer a wide range of motorsport activities and this is a great way to meet people and take your Cayman GTS to the limit.
