With the introduction of some newly revised engine plants, the Porsche Cayman has an increase in power for both the Porsche Cayman and Porsche Cayman S. These are cars that offer exceptional handling and exciting performance.
Weighing in at only 1355 kg, all Caymans are light and very nimble. The rear-wheel-drive layout is great fun to play with, and when 0-100 km/h acceleration times are around the mid five seconds (Cayman S with sequential gearbox – 4.9 seconds) you have plenty of smiles appearing on your face.
A number of stand out features are provided for the latest Cayman. The car feels nice and luxurious – in a sporty Porsche kind of way. Accentuated leather seats offer a memory function that supports the exterior mirrors and all driver’s seat positions to make the correct driving position very easy to obtain. As an option, all compatible seats – apart from sports bucket seats – can be equipped with two-level seat heating. You have a central control unit for audio, navigation and communications – the optional PCM is multifunctional and easy to operate. Almost all of the functions of the PCM can be controlled using the optional voice control system. There is a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen with a durable, easy-to-clean coating. An optional electronic logbook enables automatic recording of relevant driving data. Once you have downloaded the logbooks via Bluetooth® or the optional USB interface, you can evaluate them on your home PC using the software supplied. If you must, you can watch the latest news on free-to-air analogue and digital television broadcasts. All Cayman models feature, as standard, a three-spoke sports steering wheel with an airbag. Also available as an option is the three-spoke sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles. For extra comfort on those cold days, steering wheel heating is also available on request for all other steering wheels (steering wheel heating available only in conjunction with heated seats). Cruise control is optional and is operated using a switch on a separate control stalk on the steering column. A nice feature is that when the Cayman is opened or closed using the key remote, the standard automatic locator lighting automatically switches on the fog lights and LED daytime running lights. An optional programmable garage door opener is integrated into the overhead console. As soon as reverse gear is engaged, the optional ParkAssist is activated automatically. Absolutely exquisite is the special two tone interior colours which, on request, can be available over the standard interior package.
Exotic, sporting comfort and style don’t come much better than this. If you are after the best two seater that ‘realistic’ money can buy, then add the all new Porsche Cayman to your list.
Hot! Hot! Hot! Slip inside this smooth, mouth-watering Porsche Cayman and feel the stunning pace with which this two-door coupe covers the ground. The speed that you can hit the corners and punish the apex with will make you gasp! Due to the lightweight, rigid design, the mid-engine mounting and the sweetly tuned suspension this is a car that can be used on the race track on your day off.
With a powerful mid-engine design, the 24-valve, 6-cylinder boxer engine kicks out a healthy 195 kW for the base model Porsche Cayman. Add some more grunt to the Cayman S and you rise to 235 kW, which is enough to send this little sports car to a top speed of around 270 km/h. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or Porsche’s seven-speed PDK sport gearbox, the engine puts some serious power (235 kW) and performance at your disposal. Top speeds for the Porsche Cayman S exceed 270 km/h.
One other model exists. If you can run to the Porsche Cayman R, then you have the most powerful engine in the line-up. Top end speed can exceed an incredible 280 km/h, and for the 0-100 km/h sprint you can nail this in under 5.0 seconds with the PDK equipped Porsche Cayman R.
The interior of any of the Porsche Cayman models is something special and is designed around the driver – with a choice of three seat options. The Sports seats are rich leather and are fully adjustable. The seats are electric and fully adjustable. They even have a memory capability that works off the key remote, which holds a number of positions in its memory. The Adaptive Sports seats contain all the features of the Sports seats, but with greater adjustments. The side bolsters adjust automatically when cornering. The Porsche Cayman’s centre console contains the Porsche Communications Management or PCM. The PCM contains a wealth of information and entertainment options, navigation, telephone and enhanced audio. The premium sound system is stunning. Dual zone climate controls make the cabin very comfortable indeed.
Safety features in the Porsche Cayman boast ceramic composite brakes, ABS Anti-lock brakes and a PSM (Porsche Stability Management) system. There are also multiple airbags which are located in the front, side and curtain areas. The Dual Advanced Airbags provide optimum upper-body protection in the front. They have a weight sensor in the passenger seat which automatically switches the passenger airbags off when the seat is unoccupied or fitted with a child seat. The Porsche Cayman comes with the Porsche Side Impact Protection System which comprehensively goes to great lengths to protect its occupants against side-impact collisions. Thorax-protection airbags located in the seat backrests are coupled with head-protection airbags that deploy upward from the driver and passenger doors. One of the reasons the Cayman is so stable on the road at very high speeds is because it is fitted with a rear bi-plane spoiler that extends at speeds over 120 km/h.
Gliding your eyes over the very racy exterior lines is a pleasure. Porsche has captured speed and beauty in this design package. The large gaping air foils inside the low front air-dam give an exciting sense of pace, and when combined with the very low-slung body and bi-plane spoiler, the Cayman is stunning.
For top-notch performance and eye catching style, you can’t go without taking a look at the great-handling Porsche Cayman.
