Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

Stylish and distinctive, the all-new Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet is a great way to get about in 2016/17.  Summer’s on the way and open-top motoring doesn’t get much better than in a modern and safe new Megane.  Based on the hatch versions, the Cabriolet model just has the two doors, hence the Coupe part of its name.

One of the striking features of this open-top tourer is the new Megane’s frontal design.  A nicely balanced grille boldly presents Renault’s Diamond shape logo in a chrome gloss.  Refined wrap-around headlights are trapezoidal in their shape, and the car comes with the latest LED daytime-running light technology.  A nice and attractive feature of the new Megane’s front-end is the flared wheel arches that flow nicely into the curvy bumper arrangement.  The elevated bonnet line also flows high into the A-pillar, adding to the small cabriolet’s look of strength.  A deep front air dam houses some chrome surrounded inserts in which the LEDs are sited.  On the topic of lighting, scoot around to the back of the Megane Coupe Cabriolet, and you’ll find Renault have incorporated some very bright rear fog lamps; front and rear fog lights are a standard feature.  This is a car to be seen in – in more ways than one.

The stats show a kerb weight of 1631 kg, and this enables the Renault Convertible to sit beautifully on the road and soak up the worst undulations that the tarmac can serve up.  It feels balanced, and even when pushed through the corners, the new Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet is eager to track nice and true with plenty of grip.  You’ll find this FWD car satisfying to drive.

With 417-litres of luggage space available when the roof is up, luggage space is good.  When you want to drop the roof, the boot space is limited to 211-litres – which does restrict things somewhat – though there is still space to pack the picnic basket, blanket and a few nice wines for a day trip out in the country.  Whether you’re driving around in the city or out on country roads, the car is a delight to drive and should bring you plenty of good vibes and smiles in your travels.

A 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, 16 valve engine empowers your drive, and with 103 kW available at 6000 rpm and 195 Nm of torque available in the mid-range, Renault’s Cabriolet feels responsive and athletic.  It’s not the fastest youngster on the block, but speed isn’t everything and the Megane Cabriolet goes about its business in a refined and pleasing manner.  You can run on to a top speed of 195 km/h on the right bit of tarmac.  This is a car that is so nice to drive with the top down; it’s relaxed, safe and a pleasure to drive.  With long-legged gearing for the open road, the car returns well under 9 litres/100 km in the real world, and around town it’s not a huge drinker.

Renault have upped the level of interior design, materials and technology in the new Megane series.  What you’ll find is a very simple to use touch screen in the centre of the dash which controls all the information and entertainment features.  It’s one of the easiest systems to read and understand.  There are two levels of trim: the Dynamique and the GT-Line.  What the GT-Line adds to the very well-equipped Dynamique are things like heated front seats, hands free entry and engine start, a Renault Sport speedometer, a Radio Auditorium Sound system, R-Link enhanced satellite navigation, a carbon fibre effect dash board trim with red highlighting and dark charcoal leather upholstery.  There’s also a few other sporty tweaks to the exterior.  Both models have all the necessary luxury and comfort features you would expect a classy car to have.  Both models boast great safety features that include airbags, ABS, EBA, EBD and ESC.  Parking aids are standard for both models, too.

You’ll actually find the GT-Line is slightly cheaper than the Dynamique, and Renault gives each of these new cars a five-year/unlimited km warranty.  So, if out-and-out performance is not what you’re hankering for in your open-top drive, then this is a convertible model that you need to see because there is so much to like about the endearing new Renault Megane Coupe Convertible.

The 2016 Renault Megane Coupe Convertible model series includes the:

  • Coupe Convertible Dynamique 2.0L Petrol CVT
  • Coupe Convertible GT-Line 2.0L Petrol CVT
